A debate between two aspiring Ohio candidates seeking to fill the soon to be open Senate seat of Republican Rob Portman, who has announced that he’s retiring, got nasty with both of them taking cheap shots at each other along with members of the audience.

The match-up featured Republican candidate Josh Mandel, the former treasurer of the Buckeye State as well as a Marine Corps veteran who saw duty during the war in Iraq and Democrat Morgan Harper who worked at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) during the Obama administration.

At one point of the debate, Mandel drew blood when he referred to Harper as being “like AOC only dumber,” referring to socialist diva Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while she jabbed the former Marine for this previous failed Senate runs.

Things got even uglier when Mandel was pressed over referring to Black Lives Matter as “thugs,” sparking an exchange with a member of the largely black audience.

“Mr. Mandel, in your previous debate, you referred to Black Lives Matter as thugs,” the moderator said, a statement that led to audience involvement in the scrum.

“Uh huh, and then coming in the black community,” one woman loudly said, “put him out,” as the moderator tried to regain control before the event totally jumped the rails.

Mandel asked, “You mean like put him out with a, with a bullet? What do you mean put him out?”

“Mr. Mandel…. Mr. Mandel…. Mr. Mandel…,” the moderator said in a futile attempt to cut off the exchange.

The audience member clarified her rude remark, “Ask him to leave, he don’t belong in the black community.”

Mandel shot back, “I thought this was America where we debate freely,”

“Hey sister, listen to me, don’t do that…this is America, he can be here,” the black moderator pleaded with the audience member, “don’t embarrass me.”

“I’m not embarrassing you, but to bring that white man in the black community like that, I’m finished,” the woman in the audience replied. “But don’t you suck up to him.”

With the debate now being between the moderator and the audience member, Mandel jumped in.

“Let me tell you something ma’am. I put my life in the hands of young black guys. I had young black men put their life in my hands in the United States Marine Corps in two tours in Iraq, so don’t stand there and lecture me,” he said, speaking above the clamor. “Those were my brothers, whether they were black or they were white or they were Hispanic or they were Asian.”

At the end of the political slugfest, Harper was so rattled that she refused to even shake Mandel’s hand.

In a follow-up video posted to Twitter, Harper showed her chops as an Obama regime alum by accusing her opponent of racism.

“Last night I debated Josh Mandel in Cleveland,” she said, “and we saw from him what we’ve come to expect, racism, sexism, xenophobia, this guy has no solutions for the real issues that everyday Ohioans are facing and certainly no solutions for the black community,” throwing down the race card.

“We cannot let him anywhere near the United States Senate,” she added.

“So if you believe that racism has no place in the United States of America, if you do not want to have a U.S. senator that is spreading this kind of hateful rhetoric, then donate to my campaign morganharper.org and help us elect the first black woman senator from the state of Ohio,” Harper said as she sought to raise money by trafficking in racial resentment.
