The combination of surging street crime and rampant homelessness may have contributed to two horrific and tragic acts of violence on the same day in liberal and increasingly dystopian Los Angeles.
A random attacker allegedly stabbed to death a 24-year-old UCLA architectural design graduate student who was working alone in an upscale furniture store on the afternoon of January 13, while a 70-year-old emergency room nurse died at the hospital where she worked after a purported homeless man allegedly assaulted her at a bus stop.
Brianna Kupfer “was not found until another customer arrived at the store and reported the incident to authorities. When they arrived on the scene, she was already deceased,” CBS LA noted about the ghastly incident at the store.
The alleged suspect, who was wearing an N95 mask, was reportedly seen on security video casually walking away from the shop.
“Friends of Kupfer’s who spoke to reporters off camera remembered Brianna for her loving relationship with her family, detailing how ‘the world has been robbed of a productive member of society – who glowed with positivity,'” the news outlet added.

The suspect who is being sought in connection with this crime “is believed to be homeless,” according to LAPD detectives, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported.
The nurse, Sandra Shells, was waiting to catch a bus to her job at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center early that morning when a man whom some media outlets have described as homeless allegedly punched or slapped her in the head in an unprovoked attack. She reportedly suffered a fractured skull when she hit the pavement. She tragically passed away three days later from the injuries.
The suspect is in custody on $2 million bail on a charge of attempted murder. Cops had found him sleeping near the bus station later on the day of the attack.
“Authorities described him as a transient, with one prior arrest in L.A. and multiple others in other states,” ABC7 Los Angeles reported.
In a statement, the hospital explained that “Sandra worked tirelessly and selflessly to keep her patients safe and healthy and will always be remembered as a ‘kind, compassionate and giving nurse’ with a ‘helpful and thoughtful nature’ who was a favorite amongst colleagues and patients. There will never be enough words to express our gratitude for her tremendous work and dedication.”

Nearly 400 murders occurred in Democrat-controlled Los Angeles in 2021, up about 12 percent from 2020, and a practically unbelievable 54 percent from 2019.
With many shoplifting crimes reduced to misdemeanors, California has also been experiencing an epidemic of brazen smash-and-grab robberies. Chilling follow-home robberies have also occurred.
Along with high taxes that don’t translate into effective, efficient services, plus the crime rate, even in upscale neighborhoods in Los Angeles and other cities, and the overall decay in the quality of life explain why many residents of the once Golden State are relocating to Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and elsewhere.
All suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.
