NASCAR is reportedly saying not so fast when it comes to professional race car driver Brandon Brown’s new sponsor.
On Thursday, December 30, Brandonbilt Motorsports, Brown’s team, announced that it had struck a partnership deal with cryptocurrency meme coin LGBcoin with the approval of the governing body, which would allow the relevant logo to be displayed on Brown’s car.
“However, NASCAR officials subsequently said nothing had been approved, and the team had jumped the gun with its announcement. Teams have always had to get NASCAR approval on sponsors and paint schemes before putting a car on the track,” Racer.com reported.
Brandon’s team insists that it received the greenlight from a NASCAR official on December 26 in an email that “unambiguously” stated that “the sponsors are approved.”
“After the announcement went live on Thursday morning, NASCAR acknowledged to us late that afternoon that we had received approval but that they now needed to discuss this at a higher level,” Brown spokesperson Maxwell Marcucci informed Fox Business.
According to the LGBcoin website that is emblazoned with the words Let’s go Brandon!, “America’s coin backs America’s driver.”
“A decentralized meme token inspiring positivity and patriotism, grounded in a strong belief in the American dream and the principles of freedom,” the website added.
As BPR has previously suggested, Brown has apparently turned a corner and decided to embrace the political slogan inadvertently inspired by his namesake.

In a statement, Brandonbilt Motorsports “acknowledged that the NASCAR official offered feedback on a minor graphic design change ‘to ensure legibility on the track at 170mph,'” and that the team hopes to work cooperatively with NASCAR to resolve the matter promptly, Fox Business noted.
Brown’s No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro containing the cryptocurrency logo is scheduled to make its racing debut on February 19, 2022, during the NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway. The series is set for 33 races.

As alluded to above, the PG-13 ‘Let’s go Brandon’ meme or chant became instantly popular with critics of the incumbent president as well critics of the biased corporate media after an NBC Sports reporter on October 2 appeared to misunderstand what was being shouted in the stands following a NASCAR event at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway when she was interviewing Xfinity Series race winner Brown.
The crowd was chanting “F**k Joe Biden,” but she apparently mistook it for “Let’s go Brandon!”
The rest is history as the high-octane phrase entered the national zeitgeist.
Brown, 28, implied in a New York Times interview in December 2021 that he was apolitical and wanted to avoid alienating any fans on the basis of politics.
In an op-ed for Newsweek also last month, Brandon expressed concern for his brand after the LGB chant went viral.

“I was afraid of being canceled by my sponsors, or by the media, for being caught up in something that has little to do with me.”
The self-described Republican added, however, that he would speak out on certain issues when circumstances warranted.
In the context of the LGB chant, NASCAR President Steve Phelps said at year end that “We do not want to associate ourselves with politics, the left or the right,” and that organization would respect the office of the U.S. president regardless of who the incumbent happens to be at the time.
“Phelps added that NASCAR would block any instance in which the [LGB] phrase was used in conjunction with NASCAR’s logo or trademarks,” the Washington Post reported.
