President Biden looked away and scratched his forehead when Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy yelled a question at him on Sunday regarding rumored plans to pay $450,000 per person to illegal immigrants separated from their families during the Trump administration.

“Mr. President, is it true we’re going to give $450,000 to border crossers who are separated?” Doocy shouted at Biden while he was taking an escalator after his press conference in Rome at the end of the G20 gathering.
Biden was looking at the camera when Doocy yelled his question. His curious and dismissive response was to ignore it and look away while scratching his head.
The potentially massive payments were reported by the Wall Street Journal Thursday. Evidently, the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are seriously considering making the payment to family members who were separated after crossing the border illegally during the Trump administration in connection to a lawsuit. The move is ostensibly a political one as no such offers are being made to the families that Obama separated during his tenure.
The move could mean that each family would see close to $1 million in payments with a total estimated cost of $1 billion overall. The Journal did note that many of the families would get much smaller payments than that.
Republicans and conservatives are livid over the proposal. The payments could well exceed those given to families of 9/11 victims and Gold Star families.
Those who lose a loved one in military service are entitled to a death gratuity of $100,000. Life insurance from the Servicemember Group Life Insurance (SGLI) maxes out at a benefit of $400,000 and the service member had to have paid into it to get that benefit.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) claimed that the reported payments were “another way President Biden is putting America last.”
“Lawyers in his own administration admit payouts to illegal immigrants could be more than the families of the fallen from 9/11 received,” he angrily remarked. “Disgraceful.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) was incensed over the payments.
“Biden wants to pay illegal immigrants $450,000 for their hardship while breaking our laws,” Crenshaw tweeted. “For perspective, if a service member is killed in action, their next of kin gets an insurance payment of $400,000. Let that sink in.”

Many Republicans wrote on Friday to the agency heads involved protesting the payments, “The idea that we would give illegal foreigners who broke the law a check that exceeds the amount that our government supplies to our valiant and heroic Gold Star Families is shameful, reprehensible, and morally indignant.”
Advocates for 9/11 victims and their families said in a statement that the news came as a “shock” to them since they are attempting to persuade Congress and the Biden administration to fund payments for those affected by the terrorist attacks whom they claim were wrongfully kept from compensation.
“This is an outrage given the current situation the 9/11 dependent spouses and children find themselves in as we try to persuade Congress, DOJ, and the Biden Administration to fund our Lump Sum Catch Up Payment,” the group “September 11 Advocates,” declared in a statement, according to Fox News.
“The 9/11 Families suffered the ultimate separation that was not temporary, in nature. Moreover, the 9/11 Families are American citizens who were innocent civilians merely showing up to work on the morning of September 11th,” they added.
There is a lot of anger over this out there:
As a Veteran, this administration is giving all of us. Veterans a big slap in the face… to put it nicely. Your point out a great point @DanCrenshawTX

Insulting on a level that is unimaginable. As a veteran from the Vietnam era I can think of many other areas that deserve better.

Meanwhile vets who have fought for this country get a day, in which most of them still work, and a 10% discount at lowes.

That’s so outrageous on every level I’m at a loss to even put it into words. They break the law and win the lotto. God bless America…right? This country is a woke mess

The only thing illegal immigrants should receive from the U.S. government is a one-way ticket back home.
