Thousands of migrants from Haiti, South America, and Central America broke through a roadblock manned by the Mexican National Guard and law enforcement on Saturday, en route to the U.S. southern border as they chanted “Yes we can” in Spanish, according to video obtained by Fox News. The Biden regime’s failed immigration policies have forced Texas to fend for itself in anticipation of the onslaught the caravan will bring.
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) joined host Ainsley Earhardt of FNC’s “Fox snd Friends” to discuss the dire situation at the border.
“Holy cow. When we saw those images yesterday, a massive caravan coming to America. What do you think about this, because you’re a Texas resident?” Earhardt asked the congressman.
Gonzales said, “The Biden administration just continues on this illegal immigration route and all it’s doing is encouraging more and more people to make this [trek]. The sad part about it is this caravan that we are seeing of thousands of people is only the shiny object. Underneath that, these folks aren’t controlled by the cartel. These are kind of a local organization that has put these together, so what you are not seeing is the thousands of folks that are run by the cartel continue to make it over our southern border.”
“It’s only going to get worse until this administration stands up and does something,” he added.
Earhardt asked, “Isn’t there a better way to do it?”
“There is absolutely a better way to do it,” Gonzales replied. “And, you know, the sad part is instead of this administration focusing on legal immigration reform, which I think a lot of people, especially on the Republican side, are open to the discussion on legal immigration. They have chosen to go down the illegal immigration route.”
“Just look at the reconciliation package. Kevin McCarthy last week held a round table to discuss it. And in this reconciliation package is amnesty for about 10 million folks, which is completely the wrong approach,” he said.
The congressman noted that what is conspicuously absent from the multi-trillion dollar spending package is the allocation of one single penny for U.S. Border Patrol.
“They’re ignoring it,” said Earhardt.
The host went on to express her concern that although thousands of Texas Rangers and other law enforcement elements are headed to the border to defend against the deluge of migrants, she wondered if they might be overrun the same way Mexican authorities were at their southern border.
“Texas has been alone on [sic] this fight from the beginning,” said Gonzales. “The federal government, Joe Biden is nowhere to be seen.”
He described the gravity of the situation and said that he believes Texans are finally getting behind one another, and that they are “ready to secure the border on our own.”
“Regular, every day people do not feel safe because of the chaos that this administration has caused along the border,” he concluded.
