To the Biden administration’s credit, several top officials reportedly met with their Mexican counterparts on Friday to discuss the border crisis. But for some inexplicable reason, the official specifically assigned to the border was not among them.
That official, Vice President Kamala Harris, instead reportedly visited New Jersey to promote additional spending by the Biden administration, to encourage more locals to get the coronavirus vaccine and to apparently play with children.
“Harris’ first stop on the day-long trip to the Garden State was to the Ben Samuels Children’s Center at Montclair State University in Little Falls, where she touted the need to pump more federal money into child care,” NJ.com reported.

“After the Montclair appearance, Harris stopped by Essex County College in Newark to tour its COVID-19 vaccination site. … Walking in the area where shots were given, Harris delivered a pitch for more people to get vaccinated,” according to NJ.com.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and even Attorney General Merrick Garland all traveled to Mexico City, the capital of America’s southern neighbor, to hash out a new border security deal.

In public remarks made prior to the start of the discussion, Mayorkas did mention Harris by name once, according to a State Department transcript.
“[W]e’re here because this High-Level Security Dialogue is a vital venue for addressing some of the most urgent challenges facing our two countries. That’s why President Biden and President Lopez Obrador committed together to launch this effort,” he said.
“Vice President Harris reaffirmed that commitment when she traveled here in June, and today we will carry forward the work for the benefit of people on – in both countries,” he added.
And that was it …
Critics were left confused, given as Harris — not Mayorkas or anyone else — was the one designated by President Joe Biden as the the veritable border crisis czar in March.
Yet not til former President Donald Trump announced his own visit to the border in July did she finally schedule a trip. And even then, she visited El Paso, a reported non-problem area that’s already mostly secure thanks to Trump’s border wall.
Worse, she remained at the border for just a few hours before reportedly rushing off to another vacation in her posh home in Los Angeles.
Combined with her being missing in action in Mexico City, critics were left puzzled and, in some cases, angry, because her failure to secure the border has been directly impacting their own lives.

The vice president’s absence came only days after Border Patrol agents reportedly apprehended a slew of criminal illegal aliens, including sex offenders and an MS-13 gang member.
“Yesterday, Van Horn station agents arrested 35 undocumented migrants for illegally entering the United States. One of the individuals was discovered to be a convicted sex offender during processing. Records checks revealed the undocumented migrant, a citizen of El Salvador, was convicted of second-degree felony rape,” US. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Tuesday.
A day later, the agency announced it’d apprehended an extremely dangerous MS-13 gang member “with extensive criminal history in the United States.”
While it’s certainly good that the agency is apprehending some of the tens of thousands of illegal aliens streaming across the border, this minor success doesn’t appear to be the result of anything the vice president has done …
