A brief shouting match erupted on the House floor Thursday when Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene confronted two Jan. 6th committee members to “let them know that their J6 witch hunt committee is an absolute joke,” as she later put it.

Her tiff with “Republican” Liz Cheney, the committee vice-chair, and Democrat Jamie Raskin, a regular committee member, happened as Congress was voting to hold former Trump-era official Steve Bannon in contempt for ignoring the committee’s subpoenas.

In a statement made to CNN following the incident, Raskin claimed the sparring began when Greene approached both of them and asked “when are you going to do your investigation of the violence surrounding Black Lives Matter?”

“And I said, ‘Like with Kyle Rittenhouse who went and killed two Black Lives Matter protesters? I’m sure there will be an opportunity for us to get to that.’ And then, you know, it degenerated it from there as you can imagine,” the Democrat told CNN.

This angered Greene, likely because Raskin’s portrayal of the BLM riots was a gross distortion of what really happened.

The riots lasted over half a year and led to the destruction of hundreds of businesses, the vandalism of 150+ federal buildings and the deaths of dozens of people, including the two violent rioters and repeat criminal offenders who’d chased after Rittenhouse.

“This is a joke!” the Georgia lawmaker fired back in anger.

Cheney then jumped into the fray to talk trash, accusing Greene of being the “joke” and referencing the “Jewish space lasers” conspiracy theory that the media have long claimed she believes.

Echoing the same thing she said when she first addressed the accusation in February, Greene denied it and then fired back by saying Cheney is the real joke.

“I never said that! You’re done. You’re a joke, Liz. Your party rejected you,” she said.

According to both polling numbers and Cheney’s recent history in the Republican Party, the Georgia lawmaker wasn’t wrong.

Greene then began walking away from the pair and said, “Why don’t you go investigate something that matters to the American people?”

Again, she wasn’t wrong. A Morning Consult/Politico poll published this week found that only 48 percent of Americans, including just 44 percent of Independents, approve of the Jan. 6th committee.

Nevertheless, speaking with CNN afterward, Raskin boiled the feud down to Greene allegedly hammering out “some kind of ancient beef with the former chair of the House Republican Conference Liz Cheney.”

In fairness to the Democrat, the feud broke out a day after Greene slammed Cheney during an interview with The Hill, describing her as a “liar” who’s wasting “taxpayers’ dollars.”

“Liz Cheney is a liar, and you can quote me on that. She’s a liar and she’s only serving her own interests, which is to tear Trump down. She’s a liar. It’s a scam. It’s a witch hunt. It’s a joke committee, and I think it’s a waste of taxpayers’ dollars,” she said.

“She’s just jealous and she hates Trump. Nobody cares about Liz Cheney. I think that’s the biggest story: Nobody cares about Liz Cheney or their stupid committee,” she added.

Some of her remarks were captured at the end of the video below:

The remarks were made when the congresswoman was pressed about Cheney’s accusation — made earlier that morning — that former President Donald Trump’s attempts to use executive privilege to block the committee’s subpoenas suggest he was “personally involved” in planning the Jan. 6th riot.

Watch:

Despite Greene’s clear animosity toward Cheney, she later said in a statement to Axios that the feud that erupted on Thursday was specifically about the Jan. 6th committee and how she (and many Americans, it would appear) feels about it.

Democrat Liz Cheney, Russia hoaxer Adam Schiff and disheveled Jamie Raskin were giggling together and patting each other on the back in the well of the House. I had to let them know that their J6 witch hunt committee is an absolute joke,” she said.

After the feud, the House finished voting to hold Bannon in contempt, with the nine “Republicans” listed below by Greene reportedly siding with Democrats:
