‘They left you no other choice’: New Republic editor justifies piece on ‘hunting down politicians in public spaces’

A liberal journalist seemingly channeling Maxine Waters appeared to be championing “inevitable” and “natural” intrusive tactics in regard to non-compliant politicians.

Jason Linkins, deputy editor of The New Republic magazine, promoted an article by asserting on Twitter, “I wrote about hunting politicians down in public spaces, shouting at them, making them extremely upset, because they stole all of your political power and left you no other choice, which is true no matter what their clapped-out simps in the media tell you.”

At the moment, moderate Democratic U.S. Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, of Arizona and West Virginia respectively, are for the most part all that stand in the way of the Democrats in Congress and the Biden administration achieving the full extent of their enormous socialist spending goals.

As a result, the left is unhappy, and both lawmakers are experiencing their wrath.

Lamenting the media commotion over the incident in which far-left protesters harassed Sen. Sinema in a University of Arizona bathroom, Linkins linked to an essay that he authored that implied that the behavior was justified.

He also seemed to condemn the otherwise mostly liberal, Biden-supporting corporate news outlets for, according to him, suggesting the encounter was outside the bounds of civility.

Linkins insinuated that Sinema is a corporate shill whose failings include not voting to abolish the filibuster in the upper chamber, a parliamentary change which would make it easier to rubber-stamp the Democrats’ radical agenda.

“Simply put, a ruder form of politics becomes inevitable when people are deprived of political power…Should Democrats fail and Republicans succeed in locking Democratic voters out, we cannot expect progressives just to acquiesce to this new reality. Their energy and, in some cases, desperation, will simply follow another path, perhaps from the voting booth to the restroom stall,” he declared.

He goes on to write, in part:

Power concedes nothing without demand. But the demands of Democratic voters are reasonable: Just pass Biden’s agenda, already! As the powerful continue to cocoon themselves within a vault of donor boodle and ordinary citizens get shut out of the participatory process, we should naturally expect an antagonistic and more confrontational public to emerge.

And while many argue that the people should have the right to be rude, this is clearly not an ideal or preferable way to practice politics. Anyone who doesn’t want that future should stop asserting the ludicrous notion that affluent political elites have some inalienable right to civility, and start insisting that they earn it.

 

Parenthetically, Ariz. Gov. Doug Ducey expects Sinema to eventually go along with her party’s plan to spend trillions of taxpayer dollars for programs on the left’s wish list.

“She’s a politician, so of course she’s going to cave,” he told the Washington Examiner last week.

During the Trump administration, U.S. Rep. Waters (D-Calif.), as alluded to above, told a rally in the summer of 2018, “If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

Waters continued to advocate for in-your-face methods in the course of media appearances.

CNN political analyst Kirsten Powers — who generally came across as a reasonable liberal when she was a Fox News contributor — has tried to rationalize the badgering of Sen. Sinema by protestors.

This prompted Fox News host Greg Gutfeld to call her out as a “fake feminist” and a hypocrite.
