Kyrsten Sinema slams Pelosi’s ‘inexcusable’ actions on stalled spending bills: ‘I do not trade my vote for political favors’

Nancy Pelosi’s political chicanery over the bipartisan infrastructure bill has infuriated Senator Sinema, one of the two moderate Democrats who are standing in the way of the Biden administration’s bid to fundamentally transform America into a place that will be unrecognizable.

Sinema, who worked with centrist Republicans to painstakingly craft the bill which focuses on actual roads and bridges and not leftist giveaways and social engineering, lashed out after Pelosi called off the scheduled vote on the package to placate House progressives who insist that both the infrastructure package as well as the gargantuan $3.5 trillion spending bill be a tandem.

The Arizona Democrat released a scorching hot statement that while not naming her, left little doubt that she was calling out Pelosi for the postponement of the vote which she called “inexcusable, and deeply disappointing,” as well as accusing the House speaker of not negotiating in good faith.

“The failure of the U.S. House to hold a vote on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is inexcusable, and deeply disappointing for communities across our country,” Sinema said. “Denying Americans millions of good-paying jobs, safer roads, cleaner water, more reliable electricity, and better broadband only hurts everyday families.”

“Arizonans, and all everyday Americans, expect their lawmakers to consider legislation on the merits — rather than obstruct new jobs and critical infrastructure investments for no substantive reason. What Americans have seen instead is an ineffective stunt to gain leverage over a separate proposal,” She wrote.

“My vote belongs to Arizona, and I do not trade my vote for political favors — I vote based only on what is best for my state and the country. I have never, and would never, agree to any bargain that would hold one piece of legislation hostage to another,” she added.

She continued, “Congress was designed as a place where representatives of Americans with valid and diverse views find compromise and common ground. That is why, when President Biden asked me to continue bipartisan infrastructure negotiations, I agreed and helped deliver the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act – a historic, broadly popular plan that reflects a key priority of President Biden’s. My commitment to delivering lasting results is also why I have engaged for months in direct, good faith negotiations over the separate budget reconciliation proposal.”

Sinema closed with her not so veiled jab at Pelosi, “Good-faith negotiations, however, require trust,” she said. “Over the course of this year, Democratic leaders have made conflicting promises that could not all be kept — and have, at times, pretended that differences of opinion within our party did not exist, even when those disagreements were repeatedly made clear directly and publicly.”

She concluded, “Canceling the infrastructure vote further erodes that trust. More importantly, it betrays the trust the American people have placed in their elected leaders and denies our country crucial investments to expand economic opportunities.”

Her statement comes after the New York Times reported that White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain has been encouraging the AOC-Bernie Sanders wing of the House to gum up the works until Sinema and fellow moderate Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia cave on Biden’s mammoth “Build Back Better” package that serves as a Trojan horse for the controversial “Green New Deal.”

Klain’s meddling as well as a rare appearance of longtime Obama operative Susan Rice leaving Pelosi’s office on Thursday night paint a disturbing picture that Madame Speaker isn’t the only one who isn’t negotiating in good faith.

Sinema will be vilified by the usual suspects on Twitter and in the media for staying true to her beliefs but as her statement makes evident, tempers have reached a slow rolling boil.
