Greenwald pulls the five most-read stories on POLITICO right now, they all have common thread

A metaphorical Trump derangement syndrome relapse to some extent may have occurred at the Politico news site.

Some on the left had accused the liberal-leaning political portal of suddenly becoming a right-wing rag after it published one article critical of the Joe Biden-created disaster in Afghanistan.

Intellectually honest, progressive pundit Glenn Greenwald recently noticed, however, that the top-five trending articles on Politico reflected an apparent return to Beltway reporting normalcy.

Hint: None of them are about incumbent President Biden and the various profound public policy controversies engulfing his administration.

In a snapshot shared by Greenwald, the most-read pieces were as follows:

  • ‘The No. 1 issue’: Trump whips up election falsehoods after flawed Arizona report
  • ‘You’ve disgraced this country’: Judge rips Capitol riot defendant
  • McConnell warms to Herschel Walker as primary war with Trump fizzles
  • Opinion: Why the Fear of Trump May be Overblown
  • DeSantis pulls ahead of 2024 GOP pack as Florida’s Covid cases fall.

Free-speech advocate Greenwald was one of a select group of left-wing journalists who — despite their ideological opposition to Trump administration policies — repeatedly expressed skepticism about Trump-Russia collusion. History has shown that this turned out to be a false narrative pushed by the Deep State, Democrats, and their corporate media allies.

Greenwald subsequently quit The Intercept, a site he co-founded, over its pro-Biden censorship. He has since emerged as a prominent voice for holding the media accountable.

On his Substack page earlier this month, Greenwald — who frequently guests on “Tucker Carlson Tonight”– blasted the media along with Big Tech for suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, a New York Post scoop, because it would have reflected unfavorably on Joe Biden’s presidential prospects in the run-up to Election 2020.

“[V]irtually every media outlet… began completely ignoring the substance of the reporting and instead spread the lie over and over that these documents were the by-product of Russian disinformation,” Greenwald wrote.

Greenwald is not the only person active on social media who has noticed that Donald Trump is seemingly living rent-free in Politico’s collective head if the website’s most popular content, which some interpret as clickbait, is an accurate indication.

Here is some of what they had to say (warning for language):

Greenwald sent out this Tweet on Monday about the Democrats (who many would consider synonymous with the media): “For many Democrats, there is one political issue and only one: Trump.”
