Fed up with the political overload surrounding all things COVID, San Francisco deputies have threatened to quit if they are required to take the jab. The sheriff’s union declared last week that a number of deputies may quit or retire early in the face of a vaccine mandate.

A policy statement issued in June of this year requires that San Francisco’s 35,000+ public employees be vaccinated by September 15th. Refusal to do so could mean termination. Although there are supposed religious and medical exemptions that can be cited as protection against any mandate, the San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association stated on its Facebook page that any ultimatum would be met with resistance, up to and including leaving the already understaffed department.

“If deputy sheriffs are forced to vaccinate a percentage of them will retire early or seek employment elsewhere,” the Facebook post stated, warning that an exodus of deputies from the force is a consequence the city “can not afford.”

The statement continued: “The majority of Deputy Sheriffs are vaccinated. Approximately 160 out 700 Deputy Sheriffs are not vaccinated prefer to mask and test weekly instead of being vaccinated due to religious and other beliefs. Currently, the staffing at the SFSO is at the lowest it has ever been due to the past 9-month applicant testing restriction placed on the Sheriff’s Office by the Mayor.”

The SFDSA also asserted that masks are key in their philosophy, and that science and data are in their favor. Additionally, they sought to remind the government as well as the general public that their policy has always been to provide masks for law enforcement, first responders, and the public and that they had great success in doing so even during the height of the COVID pandemic. However, they say, a mandate for vaccines is a bridge too far for them.

This, of course, is unsurprising after a year and a half of dubious intel from high-ranking officials, namely one Dr. Anthony Fauci – ostensibly drunk on undeserved fame and clamoring to stay in the limelight – and so much political posturing and pseudo-intellectual discourse over the COVID pandemic and the vaccines for the virus that have overridden the actual causal element. (Hint: It’s the Chinese Communist Party’s fault we are where we are. I say that doing my best Homer Simpson “whisper.”)

San Francisco city officials are critical of the SFDSA’s stance, saying that those who are not vaccinated present an “undue and unacceptable health and safety risk” to city employees and the public at large. And in what is all-too-common and not unique to the fog city, there has been a major uptick in violence in the first half of 2021, with 119 shootings reported in the first six months of 2021, compared to 58 in the first half of last year.

The union is steadfastly holding to their masking over vaccination position, both theories of which are rife with worldwide controversy.
