The gloves come off when Bill Maher says ‘sleazy’ Cuomo needs to leave office

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is fighting for his political life as pressure mounts for the swaggering Democrat to resign over allegations of sexual improprieties toward female subordinates.

The latest to dial up the fire under Cuomo’s already hot seat was liberal comic Bill Maher who said that it is time for the “sleazy” career politician to get out.

On Friday’s edition of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the smarmy host engaged in a panel discussion on Cuomo after he joked during the opening monologue that it was “Day four of the Andrew Cuomo death watch” and that Dems are “dropping him like he’s made of gluten.”

No longer the media’s golden boy for his “leadership” during the coronavirus pandemic, Cuomo was rocked this week after New York Attorney General Letitia James said at a Tuesday press conference that her office’s probe had found that he “sexually harassed multiple women and in doing so violated federal and state law,”

The findings by James’ office ignited a firestorm that remarkably resulted in top Democrats including Joe Biden expressing their opinion that it was time for Cuomo to go, a rare departure from the party’s standard lockstep unity and a clear sign that there are serious jitters about next year’s midterm elections.

Later on the show, during the back and forth with guests including conservative Ben Shapiro, Maher remarked of Cuomo that “it seems like he’s been a little sleazy.”

“How is he still there?” he asked. “What does he think is gonna happen? Like, why would you stay at this moment? It’s been a whole week since the report came out. They’re going to impeach him if he doesn’t leave. Wouldn’t you rather go on your own accord? Wouldn’t you rather be, ‘You can’t fire me, I quit’ than get impeached in a week?”

Shapiro disagreed that Cuomo should quit by invoking Virginia’s Democrat governor Ralph Northam. “I think that all the incentive structures are for staying. You have to at least take the Ralph Northam gamble, right? I mean, you at least have to take the chance and then maybe people will forget about it and move on.”

Maher responded, “Well, I think this is worse than Ralph Northam,” referring to the Virginia governor, a Democrat, who survived a scandal over decades-old photos. “What’s worse, blackface at a party in 1980 … or actually sexually harassing women in 2021 and who work under you?”

Northam, who was rocked after a college yearbook picture was unearthed showing him and another student in blackface along with Ku Klux Klan garb is a perfect example of the media’s double standard when it comes to Democrats.

Despite the blatant racism expressed by the old photo along with his curious nickname of “Coonman” Northam apologized and what would have been a career-ending scandal were he a Republican was quickly forgiven and forgotten by the media, but it doesn’t look like Cuomo is going to be that lucky.

No Democrat politician in recent history has had a more dramatic reversal of fortunes than Cuomo who was treated like he walked on water last year and pretty soon, his fall may be complete as the calls for his ouster continue to pile up.
