White House struggles to answer why vaccinated Americans must mask up while infected migrants are let go

White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre waffled when answering a question on why the Biden administration is mandating that vaccinated Americans wear masks while allowing infected illegal aliens to be released into Texas border towns.

“You talked about this administration having a priority of protecting the American people,” Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Jean-Pierre Thursday during a White House press briefing. “Can you help us understand why is it that the federal government is asking vaccinated Americans to wear masks to stop the spread of COVID-19 but at the same time, federal agents are also releasing COVID-19 border crossers into small towns in Texas?”

“Well, let’s step back for a second,” she replied before being interrupted by a fire alarm, causing Doocy to crack a joke that it was triggered by his question.

Jean-Pierre then gave a confusing nonsequitur answer that involved giving Doocy a “30,000-foot view” of the situation. She bloviated about putting illegal immigrants into alternative programs rather than sticking them in detention. None of that addressed Doocy’s question.

“CBP provides migrants with PPE from the moment they are taken into custody and migrants are required to keep masks on at all times including when they are being transferred or in the process of being released,” Jean-Pierre stated. “If anyone exhibits signs of illness in CBP custody, they are referred to local health systems for appropriate testing, diagnosis, isolation, and treatment.”

That does not seem to be the case as numerous illegal immigrants infected with COVID-19 have reportedly been found in Texas hotels and at food establishments according to Governor Greg Abbott. It is why he enlisted the help of National Guard troops to arrest them at the border and it is why he signed an executive order limiting the transportation of illegal immigrants in the state.

The deputy press secretary appeared to be reading from a script when answering Doocy. She claimed that the Border Patrol takes protecting migrants from the virus “very seriously” and then heaped praise on local organizations that are housing illegal aliens.

Coronavirus cases among illegal immigrants have exploded by almost 900 percent in some areas of the country. Fox News previously reported that infected illegal immigrants were being released to local charities and then put up in Texas hotels without notifying local law enforcement.

Even worse, it is also being reported that two DHS whistleblowers are asserting in a complaint that extremely dangerous conditions exist at the border for migrant children and that they were ordered to downplay the seriousness of a COVID-19 outbreak among those housed at Fort Bliss.

Jean-Pierre did not address those issues and seemed intent on giving Doocy non-answers to provide cover for the Biden administration on the subject.

Doocy also cornered Jean-Pierre on future lockdowns.

“If you’re listening to the scientists, if scientists come to you at some point down the line and say, ‘It is our opinion that there should be shutdowns and there should be school closures,’ you would do that?” he asked.

She did not rule out the possibility and again did not directly answer Doocy’s question. “We listen to the CDC and the expert[s] and their guidance,” she noted. “The CDC is a body that is very well respected and, again, we follow their guidance.”

Following her comments, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw said that Americans should no longer comply if the CDC calls for more mandates and lockdowns. “I think Americans are really sick of this. They’re over it. They’re not gonna comply, and you shouldn’t comply with any more lockdowns, with any more mandates, none of it,” he declared.
