Though Meghan McCain’s departure from “The View” was met with ecstatic glee from her haters on the left and right, things haven’t been as hunky-dory behind the scenes. The search to find a replacement for her has reportedly provoked “chaos.”

“It’s chaos behind the scenes at ‘The View.’ Joy Behar is openly moaning about Meghan leaving, as it’s finally hit her that sometimes it is better the devil you know,” an ABC insider told the Daily Mail this week.

“Joy has only just realized that they could be getting someone much further right on the political spectrum than Meghan who won’t put up with her crap,” the insider added.

Indeed, those who think the grass is greener on the other side almost always discover that this isn’t the case. Behar’s worry is that the network will choose a far fiercer opponent — someone like conservative firebrand Candace Owens, for instance — as McCain’s replacement.

In fact, according to the insider, it’d be in the network’s best interest to hire someone fierce like Owens, like former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle or like former Fox News host Megyn Kelly to “give the other women a run for their money.”

Conversely, what would not be in their best interest would be to hire someone like Ana Navarro who claims to be a Republican — and who perhaps was once a Republican — but who’s clearly now a far-leftist liberal Democrat. Clearly.

“Ana Navarro is angry because she desperately wants Meghan’s job, but she’s convinced they’re not going to give her a full time seat at the table,” the insider said.

Navarro sometimes fills in as a guest host for one of the liberal hosts. That’s no coincidence, according to the insider: “Ana doesn’t deserve the chair. She is not a Republican in the true sense of the word. All she does is slam people who voted for Trump.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

“We need to hire a Trump Republican to reach more of the available audience at home. Ana is not the person,” the insider added.

The most likely pick appears to be Guilfoyle.  It reportedly wouldn’t even be the first time the show has reached out to her.

According to the insider, ABC tried on three separate occasions in the past to recruit her, but she was still employed with Fox News each time.

“She would be great as she would literally prosecute the other members of the panel every day of the week. One of our highest-rated episodes ever was when she stopped by the show with Don Jr,” the insider said.

The insider suspects that Kelly’s recruitment “would also do the same,” but would be unlikely to happen because of her highly successful podcast and her recent deal with Sirius XM.

Meanwhile, Owens now hosts her own podcast through The Daily Wire, so she’s unlikely to be recruited as well.

This leaves one person: Guilfoyle.

And according to her longtime boyfriend, Donald Trump Jr., if she were chosen, even he’d tune in to watch “The View.”

Now that’s saying something …

However, it may be a while before the network decides.

“There is no scramble. They’re taking time to find the right person to fill the seat. No one is freaking out,” a separate insider told Page Six.

The plan is to have a bunch of conservatives — “some well-known, some not” — as guest hosts when the show returns from a break in September.

In the meantime, McCain is technically still at “The View,” but only till the season ends on Aug. 6th, which will be her official last day.

When she announced her upcoming departure earlier this month, the Internet erupted in bipartisan cheer. Liberals cheered because she’s conservative, and some conservatives cheered because she’s notoriously anti-Trump.

Her announcement also inspired discussions about her replacement, with most agreeing that Owens would be the best choice. Perhaps, but as noted earlier, she’s not available for the job.
