Last night, we watched a 2012 German TV movie about Nazi General Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox. I walked away with a sense of the madness that pervaded the Nazi period in Germany. For Germans who weren’t brainwashed by Goebbels’ propaganda machine, the feeling of frustration and helplessness in the face of Hitler’s dictatorship must have been overwhelming. That is how I feel now as I witness the growing power of the Left. Frustration and helplessness.

It seems that the radical Left has been quietly but persistently winning the cultural war by acquiring control over key elements of American society—notably education, journalism and the mainstream media, entertainment, and—more recently—Big Tech. These are the institutions that influence how Americans think. As a consequence, events are taking place in the US that would have been unthinkable a mere 20 years ago.

Twenty years ago, the US Constitution was revered, the rule of law was a given, race relations had achieved a new level of cohesion, capitalism was the economic system of choice, freedom of speech was sacrosanct, equality of opportunity was for real, and Americans were unanimous in their respect for the nation’s traditions. After eight years during which Obama sought to destroy those values, they experienced a dramatic revival under Trump’s presidency. The economy was back in full swing and Americans were enjoying the fruits of their labor. America was becoming great again.

Sadly, the Left was just biding their time. Here is what we are seeing now: repudiation of the Constitution; violence and anarchy on our streets; loss of confidence in the electoral process; free speech replaced by political correctness; a resurgence of racism in the form of critical race theory and the 1619 Project; a push by Democrats for socialism and equity—a euphemism for equality of outcome; and a move by Big Tech to assume control over the economy and government.

These developments presage replacement of our republic by a dictatorship under control of the Deep State and whoever can afford to bribe them. If the Left isn’t stopped, the US will turn into a combination of the Soviet Union and Venezuela.

The key to all of this is the indoctrination of America’s children by an education system that teaches critical race theory. CRT is a racist, Marxist ideology that teaches our kids that all white people are racists and America is an evil country. The intention of CRT is to achieve the “balkanization” of America into opposing tribes based on race, to borrow the term popularized by political commentator Mark Levin. CRT has just been endorsed by the nation’s largest teacher’s union, the National Education Association. Unfortunately, the government can’t stop the NEA directly, even if it wanted to, because teachers don’t work for the feds. The teachers have a national voice in their union and there is no equivalent voice to counter the union’s position. The only real answer is for parents to join local school boards and fire the teachers who push CRT.

In our colleges and universities, only one viewpoint is permissible and that is the liberal viewpoint. When the overwhelming percentage of professors identify as liberal, it follows that liberal ideas are considered politically correct and conservative viewpoints are ostracized. “They don’t want diversity of ideas,” says Harvard Professor Alan Dershowitz, “We’re seeing a curtain of McCarthyism descend over many college campuses.” By discouraging independent thought, our institutions of higher learning are training a generation of gullible adults who will be cannon fodder for the Democratic Party.

Is the brainwashing working? “Whatever students may go into college believing,” says author Benjamin Wiker in The Blaze, “they come out liberals. That’s why liberals truly, sincerely believe that the more education you get, the more liberal you’ll be.” Recent studies conclude that a majority of college students are in favor of limitations to free speech and have a favorable view of socialism. Gallup found that 69 percent of millennials say they would vote for a socialist presidential candidate. In No Campus for White Men, author Scott Greer warns that the kids marching today to shut down a conservative speaker on campus could very well be the senators, judges, and newspaper editors of tomorrow. If unchecked, brainwashing of American youth will eventually lead to the takedown of American institutions and dismantling of the Constitution.

The Democrats don’t seem to care if half the country marginalizes the other half. The Biden administration is accusing Trump supporters of insurrection. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has referred to President Trump and his Republican colleagues as “domestic enemies” and “enemies of the state.” ABC News Political Director Rick Klein called for the “cleansing” of Trump supporters. PBS Chief Counsel Michael Beller thinks that Homeland Security should take children of Republican voters away from them and put them into “re-education camps.” Hitler, Stalin, and Mao must be smiling.

Social media has entered the fray as the new arbiter of free speech. Facebook, Twitter, and others are openly censoring conservative comments on the grounds that they violate hate speech policies, while allowing the most hateful liberal statements to remain. In the opinion of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, freedom of speech should not extend to hate speech—defined as anything they disagree with. This is partisan censorship plain and simple. A handful of Big Tech billionaires are doing to the US what Stalin did to the Soviet Union.

If the Democrats are not stopped in the 2022 and 2024 elections, the two-party system will come to an end and the nation will be run by a left-wing oligarchy. There are people in our government who “think they know better and they ought to be telling us what to do,” said economist Thomas Sowell. “Those people are the danger. And if you don’t see that,” says Sowell, “then I’m not sure what the future will be like.”
