CNN’s homepage ahead of Memorial Day makes it abundantly clear why their ratings are suffering

When most Americans think of Memorial Day weekend, thoughts of gratitude for the freedom this country affords its citizens and for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend it typically come to mind; but if you work for CNN, that thought is our “Democracy is at Risk.” Constantly.

That’s according to the network’s homepage yesterday, which was headlined with just that and featured three stories to try to illustrate their point.

One story was on the stalled January 6th commission, one on the so-called “GOP Civil War,” and one entitled “Fuel for Lies,” claiming 25 percent of Americans embrace QAnon conspiracies.

Those in the CNN zeitgeist were quick to tweet support for the homepage as if CNN were the sole brave and truth-laden network, unafraid to denounce the very freedoms that allow them to do their jobs because remember, America is burning. Right.

CNN has worked overtime the last few years to forward their agenda and theirs only. There was no mention on CNN’s homepage of the real problems plaguing our country lately.

For instance, this week President Joe Biden asked U.S. intelligence agencies to “redouble their efforts” in the investigation into the origins of the coronavirus. Former President Trump previously voiced concerns that the virus was man-made and purposefully released from a Chinese lab.

He and his supporters were met with ruthless criticisms for this hypothesis but, just one year later, the left is accepting this as a legitimate possibility now that Trump is not the one messaging it. Leftist news organizations like CNN brushed their previous take on this under the rug, and despite the potential bioweapon threat, make no mention of this news.

CNN also failed to acknowledge the rapidly rising antisemitic crimes in this country. Bad cops and “Black Lives Matter” have been a major part of CNN’s coverage and narrative in the last year, but they have not extended this coverage to marginalized Jews.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic hate crimes have risen in the days following Hamas’ attacks on Israel. Their data showed more than 17,000 tweets that used variations of the phrase, “Hitler was right” between May 7 and May 14, 2021. ADL has also seen an increase in reports of antisemitism in that time period, receiving 193 reports, up from 131 the previous week.

All hope is not lost. Plenty of Americans took to Twitter to voice their disdain for the CNN homepage:

It’s not hard to see why CNN’s ratings are tanking, as it seems only certain stories are worthy of airtime on the network. Deadline reported that CNN went from more than 2.7 million viewers in primetime in the first month of the year to an average of less than 800,000 on May 7th. That’s about two-thirds of their audience– gone.

CNN appears to be mistaken. It’s not democracy that’s at risk, it’s real journalism.
