While Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s extortion claim may seem “weird,” as Fox News host Tucker Carlson put it Monday, a bevy of new evidence suggests it’s 100 percent real.

On Tuesday the Republican congressman’s father provided the Washington Examiner with a slew of documents — including text message screenshots, emails and actual typed documents — that all reportedly lend credence to his “weird” claim.

Now, to understand everything, and it is a tad complicated, you gotta start at the beginning. So flashback to 2007, when former DEA and FBI agent Robert Alan Levinson reportedly disappeared in Iran while on a mission for the CIA. It’s believed he was captured and subsequently held indefinitely by Iranian authoritarians.

Now fast-forward to March 16th of this year, when Gaetz’s father, former Florida state Sen. Don Gaetz, received a subtly threatening text message from a man named Bob Kent offering “a plan that can make [his son’s] future legal and political problems go away.”

Kent was basically saying that certain problems were about to crop up in his son’s life, but that he — Kent — could resolve these problems if Gaetz did as he demanded.

According to the Examiner, what he specifically wanted was “help returning Levinson in exchange for giving Matt Gaetz credit for the operation and promising a presidential pardon for unnamed legal issues.”

So who exactly is this Kent guy? He’s a former Air Force intelligence officer known for making an unsuccessful attempt in 2018 to free Levinson:

There was just one problem. Levinson’s own family issued a statement in March of 2020 announcing his presumed death, based on information they’d received from the federal government. Yet Kent claimed in his text message to have “proof of life videos.”

Nevertheless, the following day Gaetz’ father met with Kent, and Kent “handed him a three-page document outlining ‘Project Homecoming.’ That document detailed a plan to save Levinson at the cost of a $25 million loan,” according to the Examiner.

The guy was basically saying, to paraphrase, “give me $25 million as a loan, and I’ll take care of your son’s forthcoming legal issues.” Gaetz’ father reportedly got rich by starting a healthcare company in 1983 and later selling his stock for millions.

According to the Examiner, the document specifically asked Gaetz’s father to deposit the money in a trust account connected to Beggs & Lane, a private Florida firm owned by former DOJ official David McGee, a lawyer known for representing Levinson’s family.

McGee is the one whom Gaetz has accused of trying to extort him.

The “Project Homecoming” document also contained a more clarified version of Kent’s original threat. It reportedly claimed that Gaetz was under investigation and that the FBI had access to photos showing him in a “sexual orgy with underage prostitutes.”

“In exchange for the funds being arranged, and upon the release of Mr. Levinson, the team that delivers Mr. Levinson to the President of The United States shall strongly advocate that President Biden issue a Presidential Pardon, or instruct the Department of Justice to terminate any and all investigations involving Congressman Gaetz,” the document reportedly read.

More shockingly, the document also suggested that President Joe Biden was aware of this “plan” …

But there’s more …

Gaetz’s father confirmed to the Examiner that someone else was at the March 17th meeting — Stephen M. Alford, a convicted fraudster.

Alford allegedly gave Gaetz’ father his business card for Captum Consultants, a company reportedly formed in April 2020 with articles of incorporation written up by Beggs & Lane.

After this stunning meeting, Gaetz and his father reportedly got in touch with the FBI, or so the congressman’s father claims. To prove this, he provided the Examiner with two related emails, one from his attorney, Jeffrey Neiman, to the DOJ.

“My client, Don Gaetz, was approached by two individuals to make a sizable payment in what I would call a scheme to defraud. The FBI is now asking Don to voluntarily and proactively assist in their investigation, which Don is willing to do. Please confirm that your Office and the FBI would like Don’s assistance in this matter and that he will be working at the Government’s request,” the first email reportedly read.

The other email was reportedly a response from U.S. Attorney David Goldberg.

“I can confirm that your client is working with my office as well as the FBI at the government’s request in order to determine if a federal crime has been committed. This has been discussed with, and approved by, the FBI as well as the leadership of my office and components of Main Justice,” it reportedly read.

The Examiner’s reporting of these documents came a day after The New York Times ran a story claiming that Gaetz is under federal investigation for transporting a 17-year-old girl across state lines for sex.

Gaetz responded later that same day, first with a Twitter thread with his side of the story, and then later that evening via an interview on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Gaetz has suggested that some of the sexual aspects of the story may be misinterpreted.

“I have definitely, in my single days, provided for women I’ve dated. You know, I’ve paid for flights, for hotel rooms. I’ve been, you know, generous as a partner. I think someone is trying to make that look criminal when it is not,” he told Axios.

However, he denied that any of his “partners” were underage.

It’s not clear whether these partners were ever involved in the alleged “sexual orgy” with him.

Meanwhile, McGee issued a statement to The Daily Beast denying Gaetz’ claims of extortion and claiming that all this is an attempt by him to deflect from his legal ordeals.
