Fresh off throwing former prez under bus on Covid-19 deaths, Dr. Birx admits Trump butt-chewing

Fresh off of trying to throw former President Donald Trump under the bus, former Trump administration official Dr. Deborah Birx accused the president of making her “very uncomfortable” during a phone conversation last August.

The accusation was made on a CNN special set to air Sunday evening. Speaking with CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Birx recalled what happened after she sat with the left-wing network last August for an interview about the coronavirus pandemic.

In that Aug. 2nd interview, she’d warned that America was entering a new phase of the pandemic and that everybody would need to re-commit to abiding by coronavirus health recommendations and restrictions.

But according to Birx, these remarks angered “everybody” at the White House, in part because the Trump administration had been celebrating what at the time had looked like a receding pandemic.

That was a very difficult time, because everybody in the White House was upset with that interview and the clarity that I brought about the epidemic,” she told Gupta.

“I can tell just by reading your face, that was a really tough time. What happened?” Gupta then asked.

“Well, I got got called by the President,” Birx replied.

“What did he say?” Gupta pressed.

Well, I think you’ve heard other conversations other people have posted with the president. I would say it was even more direct than what people have heard. It was very uncomfortable, very direct and very difficult to hear,” Birx replied.

This admission prompted Gupta to ask whether she’d been threatened during the call.

Birx responded coyly after a few seconds, saying only, “I would say it was a very uncomfortable conversation.”

Shared by CNN early Sunday afternoon, this preview from the special was the second one to be published. The first teaser clip aired on Saturday and showed Birx suggesting fewer people would have died from the coronavirus had it not been for Trump’s policies.

“I look at it this way. The first time we have an excuse — there were about 100,000 deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially,” she said.

Ironically, the attack on her former boss backfired on her. Because she herself had played such a pivotal role in his administration, left-wing critics accused her of being an accomplice to the alleged incompetence and failures she’d complained about.

Like far-left California Rep. Ted Lieu tweeted, “The malicious incompetence that resulted in hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths starts at the top, with the former President and his enablers. And who was one of his enablers? Dr. Birx, who was afraid to challenge his unscientific rhetoric and wrongfully praised him.”

Look:

Ever since Trump stepped down from office on Jan. 20th, Birx has been running her mouth about her time in his administration.

Only four days into President Joe Biden’s administration, in fact, she told CBS News that she’d “always” had thoughts about quitting.

“Always. I mean, why would you want to put yourself through that every day? Colleagues of mine that I had known for decades — decades — in that one experience, because I was in the White House, decided that I had become this political person, even though they had known me forever,” she said.

“I had to ask myself every morning: is there something that I think I can do that would be helpful in responding to this pandemic? And it’s something I asked myself every night. And when it became a point where I could — I wasn’t getting anywhere and that was, like, right before the election, I wrote a very detailed communication plan, what needed to happen the day after the election and how that need to be executed. And there was a lot of promise that that would happen.”

Listen:

Not til around Christmas break did she announce that she’d be stepping down, though word soon emerged that she was hoping for a position in the then-upcoming Biden administration.

“She has reached out to Biden advisers in recent days as she tries to make the case for a role in the incoming Democratic president’s virus response effort, according to a person familiar with the Biden team’s personnel deliberations and a Trump administration coronavirus task force official,” the Associated Press reported at the time.

The rumor was so widespread that “Saturday Night Live” mocked her over it. She eventually picked up a new job as a science adviser for a Texas air-filtration company.
