Donald Trump Jr. has warned that Republicans must stop claiming the moral high ground and instead fight fire with fire if they want to defeat Democrats.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Hannity” late Tuesday, he explained that even though he himself doesn’t really care for treating Democrats in the same unprincipled, unfair way that they treat Republicans, there’s no other option left but to “play hardball.”

He made the remarks while speaking about the Democrats’ arguably unconstitutional and unfair impeachment of his father, former President Donald Trump.

The impeachment is based on allegedly inflammatory remarks that his father made preceding the Jan. 6th riot on the U.S. Capitol.

I don’t think we should be impeaching everyone in the Democrat Caucus who said ridiculous things that are frankly much more inflammatory. Although, if they’re gonna pursue these things, Republicans have to stop trying to play the game differently,” he said.

We gotta play hardball if they’re playing hardball. We’ve been playing t-ball for generations while the Democrats have played hardball. We’ve turned the other cheek as they’ve slapped us in the face and laughed as they’ve won every major fight along the way while we claim some sort of moral high ground and [lose] everything.”

His point was that while morality, values and principles are usually of the utmost importance, they won’t save you when you’re in a war. It’s a lesson his father had tried to imprint on the Republican Party.

Listen to his full remarks below:

That’s what Donald Trump showed the Republican Party — that you can push back that, you don’t have to go with their norms, that you don’t have to listen to the media when they’re just flagrantly putting out nonsense. You can actually push back,” he continued.

And I hope that the Republican Party does that. If they go back to the old ways of just rolling over and dying each and every time someone in the media wants to write a mean piece about them because they can’t stand them or their constituents or Donald Trump … there’s no future for the party. So they better learn from that.”

But again, Trump Jr., added, it’s not that he wants to be mean. It’s just that if you don’t fight back in a war, you’re toast.

As much as I despise the notion of it, we have to be playing the same game so we got to come out aggressively, we got to pursue those kind of ideas if they’re going to do,” he said.

So how can Republicans fight back? By pursuing the exact same strategies, from cancel culture to impeachment, that Democrats have used to attack Republicans, he suggested.

“I’m not for cancel culture, but if they’re going to use it against us, against half of the country on a daily basis and use it to get rid of people, to suppress them, to bully them … we have to push back accordingly,”  Trump Jr. explained.

And that, incidentally, is exactly what the former president’s attorneys have planned.

Speaking on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” last Friday, attorney Bruce Castor revealed that he plans to play videos of Democrats cheering on the deadly Black Lives Matter riots that erupted  last year.

“There’s an awful lot of tape of cities burning and courthouses being attacked and federal agents being assaulted by rioters in the streets cheered on by Democrats throughout the country, many of them in Washington, using really the most inflammatory rhetoric that’s possible to use,” he said.

And so, Castor added, Democrats had “better be careful what [they] wish for.”

Listen to his remarks below:

But the Democrats didn’t listen. Instead, they began the former president’s impeachment by playing a “spliced and manufactured” video of the Capitol riot juxtaposed next to videos of the former president calling for peaceful protests.

The former president’s counsel, Devin Schoen, slammed the divisive video during an appearance Tuesday evening on “Hannity.”

“It’s very easy to stand up and show spliced and manufactured films. Literally the Democrats, the House managers, hired a large movie company and a large law firm to put together this thing,” he said.

“It’s a matter of tricking the American people, to play as if the rioting was going on in real time with the speech. What’s the purpose of that? Why do we want to trick the American people?”

Listen:

It’s like Trump Jr. said earlier — principles don’t matter. It’s a war, and Democrats are willing to use every trick in the book to win it.

But as noted by Castor last Friday, two can play that game.

Asked bluntly by host Laura Ingraham whether he intends to play videos of Democrats cheering on the BLM riots, he replied in the affirmative.

“I think you can count on that. If my eyes look red to the viewers, it’s because I’ve looked at a lot of video,” he said.

His eyes were red because he’d been busy preparing Trump’s defense, which will namely be that if the former president deserves to be impeached for encouraging his supporters to “peacefully and patriotically” protest outside the Capitol, then Democrats deserve the same for openly supporting what were anything but “peaceful protests.”
