Tucker: Democrats using unprecedented military troops in DC to send a message about power

Remember when President Donald Trump wanted to hold a military parade in Washington and liberals freaked out? Trump, they said, was showing his fascist tendencies, something seen only in banana republics.

Now though, Democrats have gotten over that, and Fox News’s Tucker Carlson has a theory.

Thousands of troops line the streets of Washington in preparation for Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, as the Pentagon has assembled a massive military presence on the streets of Washington, D.C., drawing troops from all 50 states.

And Carlson argued on Monday that the show of force was more about power than safety; was more about supporting Democrats than protecting the country, and was a sign of ill things to come for conservatives.

The Democrats’ use of those troops, he said, was a step toward something more nefarious, as Democrats are beginning to become more vocal about the need to curtail “white nationalism – which, Carlson argued, is code for conservatives.

Carlson pointed out that five times as many troops have been ordered to D.C. than the combined number now serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the force today more than doubles the number that President Lyndon Johnson deployed to Washington when the city was “literally on fire” from riots following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The Pentagon also has amassed more troops there today than during the Civil War when Confederate forces battled Union troops on the outskirts of the capitol.

“Our leaders have assembled the largest military presence in Washington in all of American history during peacetime,” Carlson noted. And it’s not to keep citizens safe as the murder rate has skyrocketed in recent months.

“Keeping the city safe was hardly the point of the exercise,” he said. “No matter what they are telling you, those 26,000 troops are not there for your safety. Instead, unmistakably, the Democratic Party is using those troops to send the rest of us a message about power.”

He maintained that Republicans have ignored the “leftward” drift of the military’s officer corps, such that more high-ranking leaders grumbled about dispatching troops to protect the southern border than patrol the streets of the Capitol.

Carlson also said troops had to submit to a “political purity test” and pointed out that Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee was saying openly and without hesitation that white men serving in the National Guard had to be monitored more closely because they were more likely to be conservatives.

“The Democratic Party is using the military of the United States, which they do not own, as a political weapon. But Republicans in Congress cannot be bothered to notice that,” said Carlson.

He accused Republicans of remaining blindly idle as Democrats not only politicized the Pentagon but introduced or passed bills that would create a domestic spy agency to track so-called white nationalists, ban body armor, and require licenses to own ammunition.

“What happened on Jan. 6 was awful. We don’t like mobs. We don’t like vandalism. We don’t like violence,” said Carlson. “But what happened on Jan.6 was not an insurrection. And there was nothing racial about it. That is a total lie. It is told and repeated purely for political advantage.”

Carlson then pointed out that Democrats did not consider the repeated violence in major American cities, sometimes fomented in direct opposition to President Donald Trump, insurrectionist behavior.

“Something awful has been unleashed on our country,” he closed. “Unchecked, it will inevitably lead to more awful things. … We don’t need war within our borders. Stop calling for one people in charge. Only the worst people will win that war.”
