Radically far-left and partisan New York State Attorney General Letitia James is taking a break from persecuting one of the oldest civil rights organizations in America to instead persecute the New York City Police Department.

Why? Because she feels the NYPD mistreated the left-wing Black Lives Matter and Antifa extremists who over the summer rioted violently in NYC.

James, an anti-cop zealot who’s repeatedly stood up for the “rights” of criminals, reportedly filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the NYPD, making her the state AG in American history to ever sue a police department.

The suit accuses the NYPD of perpetrating “a pattern of using excessive force and making false arrests against New Yorkers during peaceful protests.”

“From May 28, 2020 to December 11, 2020, NYPD Officers of various ranks … repeatedly and without justification used batons, fist strikes, pepper spray, and other physical force against New York Residents at the Protests,” the suit reads.

“Protesters—many of whom were never charged with any crime and were merely exercising their First Amendment rights—suffered concussions, broken bones, cuts, bruises, and other physical injuries.”

Some video footage from the so-called “peaceful protests” that provoked the allegedly unjustified police actions may be seen below (*Graphic content):

“There is no question that the NYPD engaged in a pattern of excessive, brutal, and unlawful force against peaceful protesters,” James said in a statement.

“Over the past few months, the NYPD has repeatedly and blatantly violated the rights of New Yorkers, inflicting significant physical and psychological harm and leading to great distrust in law enforcement. With today’s lawsuit, this longstanding pattern of brutal and illegal force ends. No one is above the law — not even the individuals charged with enforcing it.”

New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican, strongly disagrees with James’ assessment of what transpired over the summer.

These protests left hundreds of NYPD officers injured. Many went to the hospital. And on top of it, they destroyed businesses,” she said Friday on Fox News’ “Mornings with Maria.”

So she should be investigating those individuals who caused this type of damage, not only to our police officers, but to mom and pop shops and our of local economy. I think it’s very misguided. I think we need to show more respect and love and appreciation for our men and women in blue,” she added.

Malliotakis added that James’ suit also targets NYPD Chief Terence Monahan by name — this is true — despite him having been victimized by her beloved rioters.

“New York City’s top uniformed police officer, two lieutenants and a sergeant were injured on Wednesday in two separate incidents on the Brooklyn Bridge, including one that involved an attack with some kind of stick or pole as protesters marched nearby, officials said,” The New York Times reported on June 17th.

“The altercations were the latest to erupt between officers and the public in the roughly seven weeks since the city became the scene of widespread protests against police brutality and systemic racism in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis,” the report added.

According to the Times, the attack occurred as Monahan and a team of officers tried to arrest a BLM extremist who’d jumped onto the Brooklyn Bridge’s highway.

“With a small group gathered on the walkway near the officers as they took the person into custody, someone in a purple shirt ran toward the crowd and swung a long, thin instrument twice at the police, causing at least one of the officers to reach for his head as if he had been struck, according to a 10-second video clip of the episode released by the department,” the paper reported.

Watch, and note the NYPD’s captions:

“This is not peaceful protest,” the department wrote.

Indeed.

“It’s completely outrageous. New York Democrats have put our NYPD under attack for years. First we see the mayor tying their hands, not allowing them to prosecute or arrest individuals for certain crimes. Then we see the New York City Council defunding a billion dollars. They ended the plain clothes unit,” Malliotakis continued.

“We saw a spike in crime as a result of that radical bail reform that took place at the state level. We even saw New York Democrat elect officials raise money to bail out rioters and looters and they would be back on the street. Now the attorney general is suing the NYPD, including its Chief Monahan, who was actually assaulted during one of the protests,” she said.

To his credit, Mayor Bill de Blasio has reportedly expressed opposition to James’ lawsuit, in part because — hilariously enough — he too is one of the suit’s targets.
