After much hype of an impending major announcement, New York Attorney General Letitia James said Thursday that the state would be filing suit to dissolve the National Rifle Association (NRA), though many people online voiced disappointment that she wasn’t making an announcement regarding the tax case against President Donald Trump.

“As today’s complaints lay out, we found that the NRA […] fostered a culture of non-compliance and disregard for internal controls that led to the waste and loss of millions of assets and contributed to the NRA’s current deteriorated financial state,” James said during a press conference earlier Thursday.

“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James added. “The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”

Fox Business reported that Deutsche Bank has been completely complying with a subpoena from Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and has given him “financial statements and other records related to President Donald Trump.”

Vance’s office has also been locked in a battle with Trump over a subpoena of his accounting firm, Mazars USA. The president filed an amended lawsuit last week, arguing that the DA’s request for his tax returns and other materials was “overbroad” and issued “in bad faith.”

But Vance’s office confirmed Monday that his office’s investigation into the president, which started last year, is much wider than previously believed.

“Plaintiff’s argument that the Mazars Subpoena is overbroad fails for the additional reason that it rests on the false premise that the grand jury’s investigation is limited to so-called ‘hush-money’ payments made by Michael Cohen on behalf of Plaintiff in 2016,” Vance wrote in a filing this week.

The left, and many on the right, were anticipating an announcement meant to nail Trump on alleged tax abuse. Trump resister and co-creator of “Mueller postcards” Professor Dave Wolber indicated in a hopeful tweet that James can indict the president based on state charges for “tax fraud, bank fraud and money laundering,” despite the sitting president being immune from federal prosecution.

Many liberal users online expressed disappointment after learning that James’ announcement had nothing to do with the president. (** Language warning)

Conservative commentator Mike Cernovich issued a tweet decrying the transparent double-standard at play regarding Trump investigations and issued a dire warning to Republicans about the consequences of Trump losing the election in November.
