‘Oh my God!’ Camerota dials up drama over never-Trumper’s dubious claims on Trump’s mental state

Anti-Trump CNN host Alisyn Camerota beamed with excitement Thursday when a guy purporting to be a lifelong Republican turned “Never Trumper” serenaded her with dubious claims about President Donald Trump’s allegedly lacking cognitive state.

To be fair, that alleged “Never Trumper,” Miles Taylor, briefly worked for the Trump Department of Homeland Security from 2017 to 2019, meaning he had some credentials and real-life Trump administration experience to back his allegations.

But on the other hand, his claims about the president wound up sounding like a perfect description of Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s cognitive state.

Listen for yourself below:

He started by claiming that during his time serving as then-DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s chief of staff, he’d heard the president’s senior staff regularly share concerns about his cognitive state.

“It’s easy to make light of this. You know, the Internet is flooded with memes of really funny instances of Donald Trump showing less than great mental acuity, but this was discussed often, daily among the senior advisers and the cabinet,” Taylor said.

“People literally felt like he wasn’t up to the job. I don’t blame someone watching me and saying this guy is selling out, trying to cash in. He’s going to trash the president. I’m telling you with every fiber of my being that some of the president’s closest advisers did not think he had the mental acuity to do the actual job.”

He then described an alleged meeting in the Situation Room with the president.

You’re trying to present the president information he needs to consider, and he can’t keep his mind on it. He can’t focus, he fidgets and he gets confused. But this is the guy that needs to protect our country in the emergency and he can barely focus on what’s in front of him,” he claimed.

If that sounds familiar, it’s likely because that’s exactly how Biden always behaves.

Examples below:

By the way, Taylor has endorsed Biden for the 2020 race. More on this later.

“And I hardly ever saw Donald Trump read a document he was handed. But he did love pictures. He loved pictures and there were many occasions where we had to go see the president, and we figured out that the best way to convince him of something was to get a good graphic of it. I can’t believe I’m saying that either, but this is the truth,” he continued Thursday on CNN.

“This is what many people witnessed, and I hope others will overcome that fear about what might happen in their personal lives if they speak out against the president. It’s the time to do it. It’s right. It’s the only way we’ll have a big American comeback is if we prevent a second Donald Trump term.”

In response, a visibly-excited Camerota exclaimed, “Oh my God!”

“We have heard this whispered about, but nobody has spelled it out that clearly, that people — his top advisers daily — worry about his mental acuity and he can’t absorb the important information about the national security. We hear about that from time to time, but that is putting a fine point on it.”

Assuming you believe any of it. Do you? Perhaps you shouldn’t.

Earlier during the interview, Taylor said, “I’m a lifelong Republican and I wanted the president to succeed, but he disappointed us.”

But according to GOP rapid response director Steve Guest, that was a lie.

Look:

And so since Taylor clearly lied about being a lifelong Republican, what else has he lied about? How about the Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory?

In an interview this week with Politico, Taylor claimed in direct contradiction to known evidence that Trump had been “playing for the other team” (i.e., Russia).

“He was playing for the other team, it felt like, a lot of the time. That’s what it felt like. Sometimes it felt like the president was on the Russian team and not the American team, and we were having to run the football into the end zone against the president to secure our own country,” he reportedly said.

This isn’t a new sentiment. When Trump met with Russia President Vladimir Putin in July of 2019, Democrats and their media allies shrieked in horror because of a joke he’d made about “fake news” in Russia.

Missing from their one-sided coverage, however, was an acknowledgment of the fact that he’d “also approved a massive arms and aid package for Ukraine; expelled Russian diplomats; authorized multiple rounds of new sanctions against Moscow for everything from election interference to treaty violations; withdrawn from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty; persuaded NATO allies to increase their defense investments; and twice bombed Putin’s ally, the Assad regime, for Syria’s use of chemical weapons against civilians,” as noted at the time by The Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen

“And before the Putin meeting, Trump announced that he is considering imposing new economic sanctions to block construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that would allow Russia to increase flows of natural gas to Germany. With the exception of Ronald Reagan, Trump is right that no American president has ever been tougher on Russia.”

Coupled together, all these counter-facts really cut into Taylor’s credibility, as does this ad he — a so-called “lifelong Republican” — has produced for Biden:

That doesn’t seem like a very Republican thing to do …
