To the horror of blue-check Twitter, Herman Cain’s social media presence is alive and well, although the beloved conservative commentator and former GOP presidential candidate and Trump supporter passed away at age 74 from COVID complications on July 30, 2020.

Liberal Twitter got triggered when Cain’s official feed – now known as The Cain Gang with about 555,000 followers – commented on the selection of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate that “Just in case you thought Biden’s candidacy was going to be anything other than completely nuts, team Trump has released a new video.”

Left-wing Twitterville responded to the posthumous tweet in predictable ways. Here is a sample.

The tweet was not an apparition, however, and had a non-occult explanation.

If the blue-check brigade was paying attention, a post published on August 11, 2020, at HermanCain.com, Dr. Melanie Cain Gallo, Cain’s daughter, announced that the continuance of her dad’s mission.

“He believed in using his voice to teach, enlighten and give hope. It’s one of the ways he used this web site every day, and he wouldn’t have wanted that work to stop with his passing…he would have wanted this platform to continue giving people reasons to feel that hope as we continue to tell you what you need to know about what’s going on in the country.

“So we will continue. We’ve decided here at Cain HQ that we will go on using this platform to share the information and ideas he believed in. He often talked about the site going on once he was ready to step away from it. We had hoped he could enjoy reading it in his retirement, but he made it clear he wanted it to go on…

“[T]he site and our social media platforms will now go under the name The Cain Gang. Dad came up with this name himself. He truly valued the sharp, creative, insightful minds of his editorial team and he would not want them to stop doing what they do best! As usual, he had the best branding ideas and we see no reason to try to improve on it.”

Dr. Gallo added that Herman Cain’s legacy will also include the introduction of The Cain Leadership Institute that will champion her dad’s positive-thinking “do-love-hope” principles.

There is much-politicized speculation if not morbid triumphalism on the left side of the ledger that Cain caught the virus by attending President Trump’s Tulsa rally maskless. It is as yet apparently undetermined where Cain, a former Godfather’s Pizza CEO who survived stage 4 colon cancer, became infected with the virus, however.

Here is the viral campaign ad that The Cain Gang was referencing in the above tweet.

If you followed politics back in 2012, Herman Cain was a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination, in part because of his 9-9-9 tax reform proposal. His campaign was derailed by sexual harassment allegations, which he denied.
