State Dept. IG requests ‘highly unusual, cryptically worded’ URGENT meeting with Congress after Pompeo’s complaints

Thanks to a reportedly “cryptic” request made to Congress on Tuesday by State Department Inspector General Steve Linick, members of the liberal Twitterati have begun to trot out fanciful conspiracy theories about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his allegedly upcoming resignation.

“Key committees on Capitol Hill were notified Tuesday that the State Department’s inspector general has requested to speak with them Wednesday ‘to discuss and provide staff with copies of documents related to the State Department and Ukraine,'” The Washington Post originally reported late Tuesday afternoon.

“The offer by the office of Steve Linick, which operates mostly independently from the State Department and is responsible for investigating abuse and mismanagement, comes amid a standoff between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and House Democrats demanding documents and testimony on Ukraine-related matters for their impeachment inquiry.”

The request was reportedly made via a letter that one congressional aid has described as being “highly unusual and cryptically worded.” The request itself was reportedly marked “urgent.”

The request was filed not too long after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo effectively declared war on congressional Democrats. In a public letter published to Twitter, on Tuesday the secretary accused them of trying to “intimidate” and “bully” his staff into compliance.

“We are in receipt of your September 27, 2019 letter requesting the Department to voluntarily make available five current and former Department officials for depositions,” the letter begins.

Last Friday, the Democrat chairmen of three House committees subpoenaed Pompeo and demanded depositions from five of his employees as part of their efforts to impeach President Donald Trump. They also threatened him with obstruction charges if he failed to comply.

“I am concerned with aspects of your request, described more fully below, that can be understood only as an attempt to intimidate, bully, and treat improperly the distinguished professionals of the Department of State, including several career Foreign Service Officers, whom the Committee is now targeting,” the secretary’s letter continues.

He further claims in the letter that some among his staff have received “intimidating communications” from congressional Democrats (it wouldn’t be a first).

Because of the “cryptic” nature of the State Department IG’s “urgent” request, as well as the inexplicable timing, conspiracy theories have begun to abound on social media.

One theory is that Linick filed his request in purposeful defiance of Pompeo and is preparing to expose all of the secretary’s alleged crimes and corruption on Wednesday:

Another conspiracy theory is that whatever Linick reveals or “exposes” on Wednesday will ultimately lead to Pompeo’s resignation from office sometime soon.

“Prediction: Following the Inspector General of the State Department’s requested meeting with the staff/principals of the House impeachment inquiry committees, @SecPompeo will be forced to resign later this month to try to salvage some shred of reputation,” well-known financial expert Daniel Alpert tweeted.

Some think Pompeo will resign before the end of the day.

Look:

The last theory is that Linick intends to reveal the complaint of some random lawyer and radically far-left activist named J Whitfield Larrabee.

Larrabee has claimed on his highly partisan Twitter profile that he filed a complaint with the IG on Sunday regarding the alleged corruption of Pompeo and other State Department figures.

But given that Larrabee is a random nobody, and given also that his LinkedIn profile shows that he has never worked within the government, let alone the Trump administration, his claim seems highly dubious.
