Foluke Tuakli, who runs the website NowThis News, posted a video Monday arguing that people need to stop using the words “hey guys” because they’re offensive.
And in doing so, she triggered an avalanche of sarcastic blowback and criticism, some of it even from the surprisingly non-PC disabled community.
“‘Guys’ is a simple term,” Tuakli says in the patronizing video below. “It could mean boys, or if you’re modern, hip, it means people. At first glance, ‘guys’ seems inviting, friendly, maybe warm, even comedic at times. But it, like many male default terms, should not be normalized as an all-encompassing phrase — innocent as it may seem.
“While we understand the word means no real harm, with a deeper look, you’ll understand that we’ve been ignoring the cognitive impact on women, as well as gender non-conforming folks, by only explicitly addressing the male-identifying individuals present.”

The bottom line is that, according to Tuakli, saying “hey guys” or any similar derivative is offensive because not everybody on Earth is a male, including “transgender men.”
As of Wednesday morning, the tweet boasted only 1,400 retweets but over 20,000 comments, most of them scathing in their criticism of NowThis News and its infantile grievances.
Among the top-voted criticisms was one by Ricky Berwick, a disabled Canadian comedian who suffers from a debilitating physical condition known as Beals-Hecht syndrome — and who therefore knows all too well what it feels like to live a life bereft of so-called “privilege.”
In an incredibly insightful rebuttal video, Berwick pointed out that no word is “problematic.”
“Guys is not a problematic word!” he said, doing little to hold back his anger. “No word is problematic. Nothing should be problematic … Quit making things a problem, holy s**t!”

“Chris the DM,” in a tweet, responded to the criticisms of NowThis News’ request by kvetching about so-called “privilege.”
“The number of people acting like making a slight change to their vocabulary in the name of making people feel seen is Just Too Much™ is absolutely sad,” he wrote. “It stinks of privilege and lack of empathy. I see you all.”

The latter Twitter user wasn’t wrong to note the trend of “small, nitpicky things” being made “an issue as of late.” The fact is that NowThis News’ demands fit among a growing pattern of leftists — including even those in government — trying to change the English language.
Earlier this summer a congressional Democrat called for the words “alien” and “illegal alien” to be removed from the government’s lexicon because they allegedly “demonetize and dehumanize the migrant community,” i.e., the illegal alien community.
“Words matter. It’s vital that we respect the dignity of immigrants fleeing violence and prosecution in our language,” Rep. Joaquin Castro whined at the time.
“The words ‘alien’ and ‘illegal alien’ work to demonize and dehumanize the migrant community. They should have no place in our government’s description of human beings.”
When even members of Congress are acting like crybabies, it’s no wonder that so many Americans are adopting the same petulant attitude.
But have no fear, because there’s one man — Ricky Berwick — who will never ever, ever, ever join their childish ranks.
