This week Hollywood actress and “super-sciency” expert Alyssa Milano made what appears to be a sly attempt to suggest that the United States under President Donald Trump is awash in white supremacist-motivated hatred. She tried to accomplish this by sharing some very old news.
What she specifically did is share an old story from last year about a 92-year-old man who was “beaten with a brick, told to ‘go back to your own country’ by a pack of attackers,” as reported by Milano’s source, the New York Daily News.

Was the story false? No. But it was old, to the point that her decision to share it on Wednesday seemed like a highly misleading attempt to smear the president.
Note that she posted the tweet only three days after a ruckus broke out over trash-talking tweets the president had posted about the infamous “squad” of congressional Democrat Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
In those tweets, he wrote a scathing rant complaining about how the “squad” of “Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” spend a lot of time “viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.”
Angered by the congresswomen’s behavior, the president suggested that they “go back and help fix” their own countries. This tweet triggered dubious accusations that Trump is a “racist” and “white supremacist.
Dovetailing back to Milano’s tweet, though it’s true purpose remains unclear, it does appear as if she’d been trying to throw shade at the president by suggesting that he’s responsible for the attack.
Except that two days after its original story, the New York Daily News posted an important follow-up — one that Milano neglected to share with her followers — revealing that the attack hadn’t been motivated by racial hatred.
“Detectives on Tuesday night busted 30-year-old Laquisha Jones on an assault with a deadly weapon charge for the Fourth of July beating that sent 92-year-old Rodolfo Rodriguez to a local hospital during his daily walk,” the outlet reported.
“The witness said a woman repeatedly bashed his head with the concrete chunk. Authorities believe race was not a factor in the attack, telling the Times that the attack happened after Rodriguez bumped into a little girl with the woman on the sidewalk.”

The perpetrator was black, which means white supremacist-motivated hatred had nothing to do with the attack. In another update this past March, the outlet revealed that the perp had been sentenced to 15 years in state prison on counts of elder abuse and “using using a deadly and dangerous weapon.”
None of this was mentioned by Milano. Nor did she point out to her followers that, far from being a racist, Jones is simply a long-time criminal with behavioral issues.
“She’s been arrested twice for loitering for prostitution, and has also been convicted of prostitution in a third instance,” Heavy.com confirmed last year. “Additionally, she has been arrested for vandalism, as well as for criminal threats, as well. These arrests began as early as 2011, when Jones was in her early twenties, and have continued through to 2017. This arrest will be her sixth.”
The fact that the actress mentioned none of this does make it seem as if her tweet was designed to smear the president.

But the most stunning aspect of this story isn’t Milano’s clear-cut deception — it’s the inordinate number of far-left radicals who bought her narrative hook, line and sinker.
“Trump caused this,” one bluntly wrote.
