MSNBC gets hammered for showcasing only white women as 5 top anchors

If you subscribe to the belief that race and gender ought to matter more than merit, then you must live by this creed. When MSNBC, a far-left “news” network known for its embrace of identity politics, recently failed to live by this standard that it demands of everybody else, it paid a steep price.

Late last week the network shared a Los Angeles Times story about the top “five female anchors who now shape most of the daytime news programming at MSNBC.”

Though each of the five anchors was chosen for a legitimate reason — because each of them hosts a daily weekday “news” program — MSNBC’s far-left base took offense to the post.

Look at MSNBC’s post:

Though not included in the post, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, a white woman, shared it as well:

Do you see anything wrong with the post, save for the fact that all five women — Stephanie Ruhle, Katy Tur, Hallie Jackson, Nicolle Wallace and Andrea Mitchell — are far-left partisans/commentators versus the “journalists” that MSNBC portrays them as?

The story itself by the Times is just as milquetoast as the tweet above. It simply describes each woman, provides an overview of her show and points out how women are leading the charge at MSNBC.

The only legitimate criticism one might have is that the story should have been about the top five hosts versus the top five female hosts. But given how fond the left is of identity politics, it’s not hard to understand why they chose this route. It’s also not hard to understand why this route backfired so spectacularly on them.

Observe the reactions to MSNBC and Brzezinski’s posts:

And there it is.

The inconvenient truth that the enthusiastic practitioners of identity politics rarely realize — or least not til it’s far too late — is that there’s always a bigger victim.

MSNBC loved the Times’ story because it thought, “Hey, women are victims and have been oppressed, and here we are going out of our way to rep them. Aren’t we awesome?”

But what about black women, huh!? Not to suggest that the inclusion of black women in MSNBC’s daily line-up would change a thing. Why not? Because then the question would simply become, what about transgender women? Or what about disabled women? Or what about one-legged lesbian women who are half black, half Asian and worship the Islamic God Allah!?

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

Once you embark on the road of identity politics, there is no end. There will always be another victim who’s more allegedly oppressed and victimized than you. It’s a simple but fundamental point that conservative commentator Ann Coulter understands all too well:

When Coulter sarcastically posted these last month, leftists on social media pounced on her for her “stupid” and “crazy” tweets:

Only about a month has passed since Coulter posted those tweets and was subsequently tarred and feathered, and yet here the left is now acting exactly how she’d slyly predicted they’d one day behave.
