Iran launches first missile attack on Israel in 61 days

Daily Caller News Foundation

Air raid sirens sounded Sunday night in Israel as Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted by the Israel Defense Forces, according to social media posts.

The missile launches were identified at roughly 3:05 p.m. EDT, according to an X post by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

“The IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the IDF posted.

At least two other waves of missiles have been detected, the Israel War Room account also posted.

“Third wave of missiles has been detected. The public is advised to continue to follow the instructions of Home Front Command and stay near shelters,” its post reads. “Red alert sirens are currently sounding in multiple areas of northern and central Israel.”

Iranian missiles were also fired at Kuwait and Bahrain, Fox News reported. Israeli defenses intercepted all incoming missiles, according to Israel’s War Room.

Earlier Sunday, Israel announced it struck a Hezbollah command center in Lebanon in response to rocket attacks on communities in northern Israel. Iran has threatened retaliation against Israel over strikes against the radical Islamic terrorist group.

Israel began its latest campaign against Hezbollah on March 2, after the Iranian proxy launched rockets and suicide drones at Israel following the start of the U.S.’s Operation Epic Fury, according to the IDF.

President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire deal between the United States and Iran on April 7, hours before a deadline for the Iranian regime to agree to terms expired.

“It’s certainly not going to help negotiations,” Trump said in reaction to Iran’s strikes to Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst. He also noted the attack would complicate ongoing negotiations.

“We’re very close. I would say an agreement would be signed on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this coming week. And now this takes place,” he added.

“You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough,” Trump also reportedly said, addressing Iran. “Get back to the table and make a deal.”

United States Central Command and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
