Parkland shooter’s brother arrested after returning to Stoneman Douglas. His reason didn’t fly with cops.

The younger brother of Parkland shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz was arrested Monday.

Zachary Cruz, 18, was detained by police for trespassing on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school grounds after being warned to stay away, the Associated Press reports. The younger Cruz claimed he was there to “reflect” on last month’s massacre.

Security cameras recorded the teenager riding his skateboard on campus at approximately 4:30 pm on Monday. A report by Broward Sheriff’s Office said the younger Cruz had received warnings to stay away from the school.

“Defendant Cruz surpassed all locked doors and gates and proceeded to ride his skateboard through school grounds,” a deputy’s report cited by the Miami Herald read.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Cruz underwent a mental evaluation under Florida’s Baker Act following his brother’s alleged crime.

He told police officers that he had said “I don’t want to be alive. I don’t want to deal with this stuff” in a conversation with his caretaker, Rocxanne Deschamps, upon hearing what his brother had done.

Cruz denied to law enforcement that he wanted to harm or kill himself. He has expressed remorse for having bullied his older brother and has been seen shedding tears at hearings for Nikolas Cruz.

Many observers were perplexed that the younger Cruz was able to bypass security and trespass on school property.

Robert Runcie, Broward Schools Superintendent, downplayed security concerns.

“It wasn’t some breach of security,” he told the Sun Sentinel. He came through whatever gate was open at the time. Somebody spotted him and reported him to BSO. They responded quickly.”

“It’s kind of odd, and I understand it does creep people out,” Runcie added.
