Disrespectful US Olympic skier takes unprovoked swipe at Ivanka Trump and the blowback is brutal

As the 2018 Winter Olympics came to an end, Gus Kenworthy couldn’t help getting political one last time.

The openly-gay skier, who placed 12th in the slopestyle final, tweeted on Sunday that he was not happy to see First Daughter Ivanka Trump leading the US delegation at the closing ceremony to the Olympic games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

“So proud of all these people!” Kenworthy wrote. “Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??”

The athlete’s tweet was met by many sharp rebukes, some of which noted his performance at the games, which failed to live up to his 2014 silver medal win at the Sochi, Russia Olympics.

The First Daughter arrived in South Korea on Friday, immediately making waves by revealing she traveled on a commercial flight.

While in Pyeongchang, Trump took care of official business in her capacity as White House adviser, personally meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to talk North Korea.

She also met with American athletes’ families, including the children of bobsledder and former green beret Nate Weber.

During the games, Gus Kenworthy also voiced his disapproval of Vice President Mike Pence, who led the American delegation at the competition’s opening.

“I’m so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy!” Kenworthy wrote in an Instagram post that showed him pictured beside another gay athlete, figure skater Adam Rippon. “Eat your heart out, Pence.”

After Kenworthy broke his thumb during a practice session, he joked that the injury wouldn’t stop him from competing, but would keep him from shaking the vice president’s hand.

Kenworthy would do well to take a page out of Ivanka Trump’s book when it comes to representing his country with dignity and class.
