Julia Stiles comes under attack for way she carries baby, accuses critics of mom shaming

Actress Julia Stiles has fired back at critics of the way she carried her newborn baby in a photo she shared on Instagram.

Stiles released the photo of her five-week-old son, Strummer Newcomb, being held in a front held Ergonomic Free-to-Grow Baby Carrier on Wednesday, People Magazine reported.

After which she was inundated with vitriol from critics on social media for not holding her baby properly.

“It was brought to my attention that in the previous photo I am not holding my baby correctly. Wow, I didn’t expect that,” she wrote on Instagram on Friday.

“What was supposed to be a shout out of products I like suddenly becomes an invitation to comment on my baby, and my ability as a mother. That’s the internet for you, the carnivorous plant from Little Shop of Horrors,” she said.

That’s the internet for you, the carnivorous plant from “Little Shop of Horrors”. I was trying to keep much of my son’s image private, including, I guess, his little feet. And it was just a photo taken at home, not how I normally carry him around. Thanks for the concern, anyway. Yes, Mothers, always read the safety instructions. But also, Instagrammers: instead of writing snarky comments about a 5 week old, try dancing around your living room to a Clash record. It’s way more fun.

Newcomb was born to Stiles and her husband, actor Preston J. Cook, on Oct. 20.

The couple met on the set of the 2015 movie “Blackway,” originally titled “Go With Me,” where Cook worked as a camera assistant.

They were wed in September in what Stiles jokingly called a “shotgun wedding” a month before their son was born.
