A Navy veteran killed in the Las Vegas shooting described what it felt like to be shot at in Afghanistan in his last Facebook post before his death.
“What’s it like to be shot at? It’s a nightmare no amount of drugs, no amount of therapy and no amount of drunk talks with your war veteran buddies will ever be able to escape,” U.S. Navy veteran Christopher Roybal wrote.
Roybal was a Denver resident working at a fitness center and celebrating his upcoming birthday with his mother at a country music concert in Las Vegas when he was gunned down by attacker Stephen Paddock. He reportedly served with a U.S. Army Division in Kandahar where he repeatedly came under fire, causing him some apparent distress.
He described his experience in detail July 13 in his last public Facebook status:
His friend with him at the concert later told his mother he was shot in the chest and could not be revived. “He saw Christopher take his last breath,” she said.
She followed up in a Facebook status, saying, “Today is the saddest day of my life. My son Christopher Roybal was murdered last night in Las Vegas. My heart is broken in a billion pieces. For anyone who knew the relationship we shared, you then know we were best friends. I will forever miss my Munchkin.”
