MSNBC contributor Joan Walsh claimed Sunday that “really good research” points to the fear of brown people as the reason for President Donald Trump’s success.
Really? So terrorism, porous borders, jobs that have gone overseas and the decimation of the military had nothing to do with it?
Walsh, incidentally, wrote a book called “What’s the Matter with White People?”
Here we go.
“The really good research that’s taken place since the election shows that fear of a changing America is the number one factor that you can see drive––really divides a white Trump voter from a white non-Trump voter, that it’s fears of brown people, fears of losing the majority,” Walsh told host Joy Reid on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” at about the 9:45 mark.
Walsh also claimed that Trump doesn’t take Russian meddling into the presidential election seriously — but failed to mention that President Obama was the first who had notice that the Kremlin may be interfering, yet refused to act upon the information and even kept quiet about it.
Reid set the conversation’s tone with a clip of Trump stating that criminals who are in the country illegally “have been shielded too long” by previous administrations.

“How do we bask in the glow of fireworks illuminating the Statue of Liberty when out president neglects to welcome those ‘huddled masses yearning to breathe free?'” Reid asked.
The MSNBC host later claimed that the president projected a fear that “a certain kind of immigrant is overrunning the country,” driving the discussion further in the direction she wanted. She later added that white voters “see that browning of the country as somehow a threat” to their way of life.
That’s what led to Walsh’s “really good research” claim — but neglected to mention who did the research. Instead, she claimed Trump was doing nothing about the allegations of Russian interference.
“But you know what’s also sad to me is that this cohort, I wrote about my Irish Catholic working class family, this cohort used to be so patriotic, and so much America—love it or leave it, things that I didn’t like about it, but that was just so stirred by this country’s—what they perceived as its values and much of the same cohort is with Donald Trump—dismissing the Russia allegations, doing nothing to support the people who are trying to get answers, and I find this kind of relative, this relativity about well, you know, if my guy doesn’t think it’s important or if my guy might even be threatened by it, then I don’t care either,” Walsh said. “That is not patriotism. That is something else entirely.”
Actually, the FBI and two congressional committees are looking into it — which is more than what happened during the Obama administration.
