Gunman wanted ‘to kill as many Republican members as possible’- Rep. DeSantis’ chilling encounter

Following the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise on Wednesday fellow members of Congress have described a scene that could have been a mass killing if not for the quick action of the heroic Capitol police.

Rep. Mark Walker told NBC News that he thought the “gunman was there to kill as many Republican members as possible.”

Rep. Ron DeSantis told Fox News about an encounter he had with a man prior to the shooting who wanted to know what party the practicing baseball players belonged to.

“There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there, and it was just a little odd,” he said.

Guy who gunned down GOP lawmakers was a Bernie fan and here’s what else we know …

Scalise was shot in the hip and four others, including Capitol Police officers, were said to be shot.

CNN reported that Rep. Scalise was in “good spirits” before going into surgery on Wednesday.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul agreed with Rep Walker that a mass killing disaster was narrowly averted.

“Our lives were saved by the Capitol Hill police. Had they not been there I think it would have been a massacre,” Paul told CNN.

“The field was basically a killing field. If you were to run out there while the shooter was still shooting, he would have shot anybody,” he said. “He was shooting people as far away as right field. That’s probably, what, 75 yards away.”
