An MSNBC anchor twice tried to push the narrative that President Donald Trump “is trying to provoke a domestic terrorist attack?”
During his Sunday telecast, MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts suggested to his guests that the president’s tweets earlier that day on Saturday’s London Bridge attack that killed seven and injured dozens of others were a deliberate red flag to trigger further attacks.
He first promoted this notion to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
“I just want to ask you, the president doesn’t want us to be politically correct, right. So let’s not PC about this,” Roberts said to the Democratic mayor. “Is the president trying to provoke a domestic terrorist attack with this Twitter rant, because only to prove himself right?”
Reed ignored the question but nonetheless managed to attack Trump.
“Well, the bottom line is, not being politically correct doesn’t mean being misinformed or leaking intelligence that harms one of our most important allies,” Reed said. He later added, “The way to handle a matter of this kind is not through the form of tweet, it’s in the form of leader to leader direct conversations often handled in a confidential manner.”
Apparently dissatisfied with Reed’s answer, Roberts promoted the idea later on into the telecast with former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.
“I asked this of Mayor Reed, but it seems like the president is trying to provoke something that he can politicize more for his own gain in America. Do you feel that way?” Roberts asked.
Dean, who also served as Democratic National Committee Chairman, also failed to take the bait the MSNBC host offered.
“I just think he’s — well, I think he’s totally incompetent,” Dean told Roberts, then changed the subject altogether to Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord.
“I’m tired of this crap. Let him do what he wants,” Dean said, before launching on a theme that’s becoming all-too-common among liberals — that Trump isn’t really the president of the United States.
“He’s not the president of what the American dream stands for. He’s not the president of the greatest nation on the face of the Earth,” Dean ranted. “He can be his own president and get whatever he wants out of that. We’ll speak for America. He can speak for whoever he wants.”
