Former NFL tight end Todd Heap hit and killed his 3-year-old daughter with his truck in a heartbreaking accident on Friday.
Heap was moving his vehicle forward in the driveway of his Mesa, Arizona home, when he hit his daughter, the Arizona Republic reported.
The child was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Heap played 12 seasons in the NFL where he starred for the Ravens for 10 years and the Cardinals for two.
He was selected to two Pro Bowls in his career.
Sadly Heap’s tragedy is not as uncommon as it might seem.
Around 100 children are killed every year after being struck in their driveways, according to Janette Fennell, who serves as president of the car safety advocacy group Kids and Cars, told Parents.com.
Each year another 2,400 are injured in such accidents.
