Inmate tries to strangle a guard with towel; watch what the rest of the prisoners do

A Florida prison guard had an unlikely group of heroes that rushed to save his life when he was being attacked.

Prisoner Kiondre Zachery, 22, grabbed a towel, snuck up to Deputy D. Hernandez and began to strangle him on Tuesday in Tampa’s Falkenburg Road Jail when other prisoners ran to rescue him.

The deputy got free from Zachery’s grasp. But when the prisoner was about to punch him several other prisoners tackled Zachery and helped Hernandez hold him as they waited for backup to arrive, surveillance video from the jail showed.

The deputy only suffered a twisted ankle and abrasions to his neck in the scuffle and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office praised both the inmates and the guard staff, Fox 13 reported.

“Due to the overall professionalism and respect that detention deputies display towards the inmates on a daily basis, the inmates came to the deputy’s aid preventing the deputy from being seriously injured,” it said in a statement.
