Harry Reid’s retirement cannot come soon enough.
While Democrat leaders like President Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren have been gracious in defeat and vowed to forge ahead and work with President-elect Donald Trump, whether they mean it or not, the outgoing Nevada senator was not so magnanimous.
“The election of Donald Trump has emboldened the forces of hate and bigotry in America,” the Senate minority leader said in a statement.
“White nationalists, Vladimir Putin and ISIS are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory, while innocent, law-abiding Americans are wracked with fear — especially African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, Muslim Americans, LGBT Americans and Asian Americans,” Reid added. “Watching white nationalists celebrate while innocent Americans cry tears of fear does not feel like America.”
The senator continued, irresponsibly telling people angry about a democratic election that “their fear is entirely rational.”
Not the fears of a man who was dragged from his car and beaten in the street because he voted for Trump, or those who are having their property destroyed, but the fears of the people who need to be assuaged because their candidate of choice didn’t win a fair election where half of the nation disagreed with them.
“If this is going to be a time of healing, we must first put the responsibility for healing where it belongs: at the feet of Donald Trump, a sexual predator who lost the popular vote and fueled his campaign with bigotry and hate. Winning the electoral college does not absolve Trump of the grave sins he committed against millions of Americans,” he said.
“If Trump wants to roll back the tide of hate he unleashed, he has a tremendous amount of work to do and he must begin immediately,” the fear mongering senator said.
After reading that statement, step one in the healing process begins with Reid’s retirement.

That’s strange, Harry Reid, because all I’ve seen over the last 48 hours is Trump supporters being violently attacked. pic.twitter.com/GDrp9GPtCa
