A Cambridge University lecturer decided to bare it all in protest of Britain leaving the European Union.
Victoria Bateman arrived at an economics faculty meeting last week wearing nothing at all but he words “Brexit leaves Britain naked” across her breasts and stomach, the Telegraph reported.
Unfortunately for Bateman, her attempt at making a political statement accomplished nothing as she sat for two hours in the meeting with about 30 economists who said nothing about her naked body.
According to the Telegraph:
“Ms Bateman, a lecturer has researched the development of the European economy, sat at the two-hour meeting without anyone mentioning her nudity they just went on with a normal meeting about tripos and marking.
Nigel Knight, director of studies at Churchill College and the chair of the meeting, glanced at her and then said to his secretary: “I think we need some cups for the coffee” and everyone else just stared straight ahead.
His remarks, however, are understood to have taken place before the meeting started.”
Bateman had reportedly used her body to make a statement in the past, posing nude for a portrait last year.
“It is well known to the faculty that she has posed naked but obviously the behaviour here was different. One thing is to pose naked and another to show up naked,” a source from the meeting told the Daily Telegraph.
“This was a standard meeting about the teaching of economics and we moved away from her state of dress,” the source said. “We remained silent on that issue and managed to get through the agenda in the meeting.”
Bateman has been an outspoken opponent of the UK exit of the Union, according to the Telegraph. She also believes more women should be encouraged to study economics.
“Economics is in need of a sexual revolution,” she told the Cambridge News.
Needless to say, Bateman’s attempt at getting attention worked – but maybe not as she intended.

I don’t mind Cambridge Economist Victoria Bateman going naked down King’s Parade. It’s her inability to understand Brexit that scares me.

@rtrnicholl Not sure how this is an effective means of protest, unless one is exceptionally ugly.
