Wisconsin schools have openly embraced the social justice organization Black Lives Matter.

According to the Milwaukee school system’s budget, that seems to be the case. Roughly $417,000 are designated to fund what’s listed in the budget as “Black Lives Matter.”

Take a look for yourself:

But now, the school district is totally backing off the controversy, telling Fox News in a statement that the money is simply paying for two new social studies teachers.

“No funding is going to any Black Lives Matter organization,” said Tony Tagliavia, a spokesman for the Milwaukee school system to Fox News. “The specific expenditures, which are also outlined in the budget proposal, are for three social studies teachers and staff development for other employees.”

The money designated for Black Lives Matter is also apparently going to fund a “cultural studies curriculum” that will “[ensure] that culturally responsive teaching practices are in place at all schools, enhancing the district vision for student participation in a wide range of after-school activities.”

“The focus is on racial disparities and inequities in education that must be addressed,” Tagliavia said.
