This GOP lawmaker isn’t having anything to do with Target’s new bathroom policy.
After Target announced that it would welcome “transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity,” Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert slammed the superstore for what he says is political correctness run amok.
“So here we are, at the place in our history where insanity in the name of political correctness rules the day, common sense no longer common,” Gohmert said in an epic tirade on the House floor.
“Why not let the transgender, LGBT,Q,R,S,T — whatever the initials are — let them have their activities where they don’t impose upon the privacy of someone who wants to go to the restroom or shower without someone from the opposite sex being there with them,” Gohmert said.
Gohmert argued that by allowing men to identify as women and therefore use the women’s bathroom will become a tool and loophole for sexual predators.
“You give guys a chance to say I’m transgender, and I can go in and film a girl in the shower, there will be people who do that,” Gohmert said.
Yesterday, BizPac Review reported on a petition now circulating, in which Target customers are asked to boycott the superstore over their new bathroom policy.
