For a woman that’s being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Hillary Clinton sure has a lot of demands.
Clinton’s chief campaign strategist Joel Benenson threatened that Clinton would not be appearing in anymore Democratic presidential debates if her opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, did not change his tone, according to a report by POLITICO.
“This is a man who said he’d never run a negative ad ever. He’s now running them, they’re now planning to run more,” Benenson said. “Let’s see the tone of the campaign he wants to run before we get to any other questions.”
Benenson slammed Sanders for spending millions in negative ads and said that because of this, he should not be allowed to dictate the terms of the presidential debates.
The Clinton campaign agreed to more debates back in January but now seems to be backing out, something that Benenson was pressed on by CNN.
“The debates have been very good, but Sen. Sanders doesn’t get to decide when we debate, particularly when he’s running a very negative campaign against us,” Benenson added. “Let’s see if he goes back to the kind of tone he said he was going to set early on. If he does that, then we’ll talk about debates.”
When asked if that means the Clinton campaign is ruling out a New York debate, Benenson responded, “I didn’t say that. I said we’re going to see what kind of tone he sets.”
