Trump gets nominated for Nobel Peace Prize – reportedly for ‘peace through strength’ ideology

Donald Trump: Billionaire real estate developer, presidential candidate, reality TV star — and now Nobel laureate?

In what appears to be a repeat of 2009, Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump is one of thousands of nominations the Nobel committee receives each year.

Other notable nominees include Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Greek islanders helping Syrian migrants, according to the French news agency AFP, which reported:

In an entirely different field, US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has also been nominated for the prize, according to Nobel watcher Kristian Berg Harpviken, the director of the Peace Research Institute of Oslo.

According to a copy of the nomination letter Harpviken said he had received, brash tycoon Trump — who has attracted international condemnation by calling for a ban on Muslims entering the United States — deserves the prize for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, ISIS, nuclear Iran and Communist China”.

Once news hit the streets, people took to social media.

“A nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize may be submitted by any person who meets the nomination criteria,” according to nobelprize.org. “A letter of invitation to submit is not required.”

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway. All other Nobel prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden.
