Obama defends swap: Terrorists ‘absolutely’ a risk, but no worries, Qatar promised to watch them

Those five terrorist ringleaders freed as part of a prisoner swap with the Taliban “absolutely” pose a risk of returning to the battlefield and killing Americans, the man responsible for their release said Tuesday.

But don’t worry about it, Qatar’s on the case.

Commenting for the first time publicly on the prisoner exchange that traded five top-level Taliban leaders for one American Army sergeant who disappeared from his post in Afghanistan in 2009 under suspicious circumstances, President Obama said the risk of returning previously confined enemies to the battlefield was well worth it.

“Is there the possibility of some of them trying to return to activities that are detrimental to us? Absolutely,” Obama said during a stop in Poland, according to Fox News. “That’s been true of all the prisoners that were released from Guantanamo. There’s a certain recidivism rate that takes place.”

To be clear, when Obama says “detrimental to us,” he means roadside bombs that kill American soldiers and suicide bomb attacks in crowded market squares or American embassies; he means exhorting disaffected Muslim youth in the West, including the United States, to conduct their own private jihads that will make innocent blood flow; he means planes hijacked, buildings bombed, children murdered in the name of Islam. That kind of stuff.

When he says “certain recidivism rate that takes place,” he means terrorist leaders leaving the confines of Guantanamo Bay – usually to the cheers of American liberals – who decide to continue a life of murder and mayhem, rather than sitting under a tent contemplating that “religion of peace” they’re so devoted to.

Rest assured, though, the emirate of Qatar will be keeping an eagle eye on the Terror Five for a whole year after they leave American custody to make sure they don’t get up to anything “detrimental to us” – at least until they get used to drinking water with Qatari bacteria in it.

As to the soldier involved, Obama said he didn’t know how Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl left his Army post – apparently voluntarily – and ended up in the hands of America’s enemies. Bowe’s former comrades have no problem labeling him a deserter outright.

So, to get back a likely deserter, we set free five bloodthirsty terrorists the president himself says are “absolutely” a risk of returning to bloodthirsty murder and other activities “detrimental to us.”

“I wouldn’t be doing it I thought it was contrary to our national interest,” Obama said.

No worries at all.

This video of Obama’s speech tells the story.

And here’s what’s thought to be the welcome home for the five terrorists released to Qatar:
