Dakota Meyer takes on editor over claim that ISIS is a fan of the NRA

This seems to be the week for liberal writers to use their soapbox to deliver over-the-top statements. Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer refuted the latest example.

New York Magazine writer Eric Levitz published a piece titled, “ISIS Appreciated the NRA’s Work,” that claimed Islamic State terrorists somehow benefited from the work of the National Rifle Association.

He pointed to the oft-claimed but imaginary “gun show loophole” as

“The NRA likes the ‘gun-show loophole’ because the organization is funded by firearms manufacturers who would like to continue making money selling weapons to criminals. … It isn’t too hard to guess why ISIS also approves of America’s lax gun regulations. But there’s no need for guessing,” Levitz wrote.

Meyer appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” Sunday and tore apart the New York Magazine article, beginning with Levitz’s use of a terrorist organization as a source.

“Well, first off, I mean, how much lower can a journalist fall to be taking, using ISIS as their credible source, right?” Meyer told “Friends-Weekend” host Pete Hegseth. “I think it’s ridiculous. Once again, the media is going out and they’re using their First Amendment to try to go after the Second Amendment, by not looking at the facts.”

Then Meyer laid the facts out for the viewers.

“Here’s the facts of the whole thing of it,” Meyer continued. “Right, you look at San Bernardino, right? In California out there, they have … restricted AR-15s. You got have a background check on every single weapon. You have to register all your weapons out there. You have a waiting period—all these things they want to implement even more. And what’s the shooting caused by? An AR-15 with high-capacity magazines. It doesn’t seem like it worked in that situation.”

Meyer said Levitz had his facts and reasoning backward.

“The thing that stands in the way” of terrorism is the Second Amendment, he said.

“The article should read … the thing that stands in the way of ISIS being able to come over … and do terroristic acts is the NRA standing there protecting our rights to be able to bear arms and stand up for ourselves.”

Earlier in the week a Newsweek writer claimed that the American Health Care Act, approved by Republican House members Thursday, would deny coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

It took another military hero to rip his argument to shreds.
