Health officials probe Taco Bell link to stomach illness cases

Jokes about Taco Bell’s laxative effect may suddenly have a kernel of truth to them following an explosive diarrhea outbreak.

State and federal authorities are putting the fast food joint in the hot seat after many of those who contracted cyclosporiasis reported eating there before experiencing symptoms such as explosive diarrhea, vomiting, and bloating. It should be noted that some of the victims did not report eating at the restaurant prior to becoming ill.

“The center of the outbreak is in Michigan, where some Taco Bell eateries informed customers that they removed several ingredients from their menu last week,” the New York Post reported.

The eatery issued a notice in which it voluntarily recalled some of its ingredients amidst the outbreak, which will result in modified menu items until further notice.

“We are currently unable to sell Lettuce, Cilantro Onion, Pico de Gallo, and Guacamole due to a nationwide recall. We apologize for the inconvenience. Any items ordered that normally come with these items WILL NOT contain them,” it read, according to WWJ.

“The health and safety of our guests is our top priority. Public health officials have not confirmed a link to Taco Bell or any specific ingredient, supplier, restaurant or retailer. While authorities continue their broader review, Taco Bell has voluntarily and temporarily removed limited ingredients at select restaurants as a precautionary measure. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow the guidance of public health authorities,” the company said in a statement.
