Iranian team departs LA with surprising message in locker room after chaotic World Cup

Iran’s national team left a note in their locker room following their first two World Cup matches.

As the United States and Iran continue a tense navigation of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Iranian national team has made its stance crystal clear. Following their Sunday game against Belgium, which ended in a 0-0 draw, the team wrote a short note urging “peace” before leaving.

Look:

“From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast. We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity. Thank you, Los Angeles, for your hospitality. And thank you to every Iranian who gave their heart, voice, and soul for Iran throughout these 180 minutes. May peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations,” the team wrote.

The hashtags “768” and “Minab” were also used, likely referring to the strike that hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran, on the very first day of Operation Epic Fury, which left at least 120 students dead.
