Massie concession speech fuels speculation of possible presidential run

Rep. Thomas Massie’s primary defeat this Thursday had some calling for him to run for president and others pontificating the end of the GOP.

It started with the embattled congressman’s concession speech late Thursday evening. During the speech, Massie kept asking for someone in the crowded audience to explain God’s will.

“What happened today, what happened tonight was God’s will,” he said. “And we have to figure out what was the purpose of having the biggest fight ever. Why did it converge on one of 435 congressional seats right here in Kentucky? What was God’s purpose? What is he showing us tonight?”

In response, someone in the crowd yelled that they’re just getting started. Massie liked that. Then the crowd started chanting “28.”

“What happens in 2028?” Massie subsequently asked. “Oh, you want me to run for Congress again?”

No, they wanted him to run for president.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Massie said in response. “All right, well, you’ve made, you’ve made a compelling argument.”

Not everybody reacted with the same positivity. Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene responded to Massie’s loss by declaring that the GOP’s future has been “destroyed.”

“I am proud and thankful to have served in the U.S. House of Representatives with my friend Thomas Massie, a giant among weak pathetic men,” she wrote in a tweet. “Releasing the Epstein files was our demise. But it was worth every single bit because now everyone knows the truth. You are ruled by the Epstein class that cares nothing about you and your elected leaders are bought and controlled by a foreign lobby.”

“Tonight the future of the Republican Party was destroyed. The Real America First Movement will rise led by the younger generations, who hate the old guard with an unquenchable passion. Let us pray that we have a country left by the time these creatures are gone,” she added.

Democrats were equally saddened by Massie’s loss. Take Rep. Ro Khanna, for instance, who grieved his friend’s loss by inviting the outgoing congressman’s supporters to become Democrats.

“My good friend @RepThomasMassie lost tonight,” Khanna wrote on X. “He lost because he had the guts to stand up to the Epstein class and against the war. He won voters under 45 by 30 points.”

“Tonight, I say to his voters who feel rejected by Trump. We welcome you. Join our coalition to take on a rotten system and stand for the working class over the Epstein class. We will build a movement to stand for Team America,” he added.

Meanwhile, Massie’s growing army of detractors — all of them frustrated by his Epstein and Israel obsessions — celebrated his loss and the victory of his opponent, Ed Gallrein.

“The power of Donald Trump is real,” Sen. Lindsey Graham tweeted. “Congratulations to Ed Gallrein for an amazing victory against serious opposition. I believe he will bring a lot to the U.S House of Representatives. He is a warrior and businessman — someone who has truly sacrificed for our nation.”

“Happy to deliver the news to President @realDonaldTrump the results from the KY Primary and his defeat of Thomas Massie,” Rep. Erin Houchin added in another tweet. “Well done, @TeamTrump! Congratulations @EdGallrein!”

Houchin’s tweet wound up deeply irritating Massie.

But two can play that nasty game. In response to Massie’s loss, outspoken Rep. Randy Fine posted an AI-generated picture of the outgoing congressman crying with the word “LOSER” written underneath.

Trump administration official Steven Cheung kept it even more cutthroat, tweeting, “Do not ever doubt President Trump and his political power. F-ck around, find out.”
