Seven Disneyland employees rushed to hospital due to a chemical reaction

Seven Disneyland employees were rushed to the hospital after falling ill due to an unexpected chemical reaction.

Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Matt Sutter explained that workers noticed a foul smell near the backstage area of Tomorrowland’s Star Tours attraction on Tuesday. Some of those affected by the noxious fumes reported symptoms including dizziness and shortness of breath, and were treated by paramedics at the scene. Seven workers, however, required hospitalization for their symptoms.

Sutter revealed that building contractor materials were determined to be the source of the chemical fumes, as the attraction undergoes renovations.

No visitors were affected by the fumes, and all guests were moved out of the vicinity of the odor. There is currently no update on the conditions of the hospitalized employees.

This is not the first bizarre incident to take place at Disneyland. Last month, a Los Angeles couple was enjoying a romantic trip to the park as Magic Keyholders for a Valentine’s Day-themed dinner when they were instructed to sit at a specific table to recreate the iconic Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene. The moment was as perfect as one could imagine until a particularly strong gust of wind sent a tree tumbling into the lovebirds.

“That was the one photo we really wanted to do,” said LaWanda Joseph, who was one of the people struck by the falling tree, in a statement to PEOPLE. “Like two seconds after my husband sat down, he heard the tree snap. I just felt it, and I screamed.”

They were treated for “minor grazes” and released, with Joseph explaining that the couple felt “soreness” after the frightening event.

“I couldn’t have anticipated that happening, and I’m just thankful that there weren’t any smaller kids or any elderly people sitting there,” Joseph said, adding that park employees immediately sprang into action to help them.
